sex....read this 1

It's incredible to me...........you will read a post with the word "sex" in tht subject line........but I can post several messages about an effort to get gimps like myself back out into the field and on the water..and no one says "good luck"..or "go get em" ..............do you like the image you see in your mirror?

I look for new posts here a couple of times a day, and I guess I missed yours. I did a search to find out what you were talking about.

I think it's wonderful what you are trying to do. Good luck, go get 'em!

You might post in the handicapped hunter forum even. I have a good friend who is confined to a wheel chair that I have tried to talk into starting hunting or shooting, but he's not interested.

I've seen your posts, but don't have anything to add. Wouldn't mind doing something like that down here in Maryland, but I just do not have the time right now. I barely have the time to get out and hunt/fish/shoot at all right now, and when I do, it is usually on very short notice.

Like I said, I think you are doing a great thing, just didn't have anything to add to your threads that would be helpful and I usually don't just throw in a thumbs up, go get em, or your doing a great job unless I have more to say. See, look at how long this post is.

Anyway, since I wrote this much already, two thumbs up, go get em, your doing a great thing, and good luck.

The only reason I read this post is because I thought that we were going to have to delete it (i.e., unallowed content which we have had a couple of posts on this board of lately).

Still don't agree with the subject line, but I'll let Rocky decide for himself if it is acceptable or not.

I left it alone, Fabs. I read ALL the posts in this forum, and like you, simply had no worthwhile contribution to make to the previous ones. Also like you, I felt that empty "feel good" wishes would be wasted.

Str8shooter, you can check the number of times your posts have been read. There's a counter next to the title in the forum. I assure you, your posts have been read.

Str8...I see you are from NY...I am from W.Pa and we do such a thing here already..I don't know if there is an organized PGC program or not but our state gamelands are open to handicapped with the use of quads to move around on. A friend of mine and I have been taking his brother through the woods in his wheelchair for years..no quad and he just passed away 1 month ago...we didn't need any organization to do this for us...nor did we expect any help..along with that there is a man right behind our sportsmens club we let use our lakes every year for canoe rides etc for the handicapped...most of them are kids..my daughter teaches blind kids and takes them fishing now and then at the club. We have a mental handicapped 30 yr old local going on 10 yrs old that we all take care of out there too....I put new line on his poles and untangle things, tie new hooks etc for him all the time along with working on his transportation all the time..(bike)..he eats dinner with us all the time around the campfire...so there are others who just do things without the need of an organization....however, good luck up there in NY with the program...I'm sure there are people that would help out with things if they just knew what was needed....GL...also the sex post was a good trick..but we all knew it wasn't about sex becaues of the family concerns and HC....I read all posts all the time...learn lots too..most of the time just listen and learn without speaking.

Thumbs up

Skeeter -

I know you are not expecting a "thank you" when lending a hand to give others a chance to enjoy the outdoors. The satisfaction, you feel, is reward enough. Hey Skeeter, thank you.

I don't minimize the efforts of anyone in service to those less fortunate. On the contrary, I put a cat among pigeons to make others aware there is a need to do just that. For every physically challenged individual who hangs up his guns or fishing rods because he or someone close to him thinks he isn't able to be out there by himself any more, WE lose something. For every senior citizen who does the same because his wife or children convince him he is too old to drive or to take care of himself should he fall "out there," WE lose something.

I know from where I speak. Every single time I announce to my lady my intention to get out, she asks if I am going with anyone. She reminds me, yet again, to take my cell phone.."just in case." And, she breathes a little easier should I tell her that I won't be going alone. She loves me, she wants me to enjoy myself in spite of my limitations, and she enjoys not having to worry quite as much if I won't be alone.

I believe a public concentrated effort will achieve several things. Primarily it will alert more of those who need help, help is available so no more excuses. It will shed a compassionate glow, new light, on outdoorsmen who are criticized about their sport. Through continued purchases of licenses and equipment by all sportsmen, monies will continue to be available for various state and federal conservation projects.

It seems I am not alone. Several outdoor organizations who have programs in place for disabled people are always in need of able-bodied volunteers to help share the work load if even for a few hours a month. I encouarage everyone reading this to get involved in whichever group they'd like: the National Wild Turkey Federation (Wheelin' Sportsmen), Buckmasters (BADF), Safari Club International (Disabled Hunter) or others.

I will now get off my soap box and hope that if I made just one more person like yourself want to help others...it worked.

Be well,
Rob

People do listen...don't give up on the project...is for a good cause....I also know about the wife thing and are you going alone...with all the heart surgeries and etc etc I have had, I still get that what if something happens out there...I just tell my wife look for the crows the next few days and that is where I will be...get out there...enjoy the peace..keep on going on...even though most don't speak, they still listen.
