The real reason we retire.

It finally dawned on me why we retire at 65. There's no way in hell we could get to all the doctors appointments otherwise. I'm 69 now and sick of seeing almost every day ruined by a trip to some doctor. I guess it's for the best, but still a nuisance. I think the last 25 people I've met have all been doctors, nurses or medical technicians. Best wishes.

two of my brothers are doctors. if something is wrong with me i email them.

i don't like being around a bunch of strangers anyway. i avoid malls, and i don't eat in restaurants. by doing those things i lessen my chances of getting lots of things i don't want to get.

i know you were raised in the states, whether you are from a big city i don't know. when i was a kid growing up almost every neighborhood had a doctor and a dentist. now you got to drive miles to some big medical complex and a visit costs you 50 times more. you used to be able to walk to a doctors appointment or at worst it was a short bus ride.

i'm lucky i guess, the only medical problems i have are glaucoma and a bad back. the eye thingy is under control and i just live with the back problems.

but i am starting to worry because i'm getting to the age when body parts wear out, break or fall off. i'll be 70 in a few months.

getting old ain't for sissies i guess.

Retired young at 49, had too many injuries to continue on in law enforcement. But with all these replaceable joints am doing fairly well. Read the obits every morning and if I'm not in them I go find something to do. But at 67 I have to find hearing aids, glasses and my partial plates before I find something else to do.

Well I retired at 55 and that lasted two months and now at 58 I am with the Sturgis PD, Butte CO Sheriffs Office and the US Marshals Service = I know "just beat me with a stick" lol
My health is good and guess I am just a work a holic and will die happy that way.

I think the system is messed up, maybe we should retire after high school , start to work at age 40 and work till we die. eh ? Ha, Ha

My dad told me once, if you get a chance to go on a hunting trip, even if you have to borrow money to go when your younger, GO!because if you wait until you're older, and can afford it, then your body says NO !

Hello Billy D,

One of my major sore points currently with the medical profession, especially with hospitals is the failure to duplicate fairly simple procedures. I'm diabetic and have to be very careful with wounds especially in the lower part of my body. Being a former stroke victim I'm on blood thinners and trying to get thinned blood to your lower legs is often difficult. There's a hospital downtown, the Royal Victoria that does an execllent job of getting this type wound to heal with pressure bandages. I would prefer to get it done at a nearby clinic or hospital closer to home, but the Royal Victoria is the only one doing this procedure.
That's a 17 mile drive through the city and a $15. parking fee once there. You'd think a relatively simple procedure could be performed closer to home wouldn't you? I'm sure you have similar problems in the states. Best wishes.

hey Cal i'm in the same boat--75 and all i do seems to go to doc's and the drug store and super market. i do all my hunting trips yet, but don't know for how long. it just goes to prove, that when you retire you slow down and somebody is going to hit you in the ass--thus all the dr. visits. all the best. seems to be a continuous circle, but the world and everything is round, so i guess we are in the right place.

I worked for a little ole lady today installing handicap bars in her shower. She is going in to the hospital next week to get both hips replaced. Actually they will be done one week apart. But the really cool thing is she lives alone and is making all the preparations she can to try to speed her recovery so she can get back to work at a university as soon as possible. She showed me her drivers license so I could give her a senior citizen discount. SHE IS 86!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Nulle---Hunted buffalo in your area back in 1994 on the tripple "u" ranch. I guess about 30 mile from Pierre. Drove around the capital area in about 15 minutes. Sure is a lot of open space in that region, and not a hellava lot of people. With you working 3 jobs the gas bill must be pretty high. Keep at it.

Yup not many people and we sure like it that way.
Only good thing about the high gas prices is I got a pretty nice motor home last week and the price was low. lol Now all I need is the time off to use it.

at the age of 47 so I could be a kept man. My wife told me she would take care of me for the rest of my life. Now the slut quit work...just when I needed the money too. Heck I was going to Argentina this year...but with her quitting work I'll only be able to afford 5 days instead of 7. Them wimmin lie to ya. You younger guys just remember that. As far as wearing out. Well, I tried to do that to myself years ago. Coming home to roost now...at my age I won't be able to walk in about 5 yrs..if I make it. Us retired Firefighters don't live too awful long anyway!! Or so I been told. Maybe that's why my wife quit werkin. So she could be home more to poison me or somethin!! Not that I deserve any such thing!!

Different than Nulle, I'm not even gonna retire, been too active and know I couldn't even attempt it!I'm 64 n in total health, good job and am gonna stay that way til I clear the fireing line.
