pass the buck

Question, where were the tax dollars needed to upgrade our steel mills before they closed?...They were private companies and expected to fund upgrades themselves...I need a new milk cooler in my store since mine has rusted out....should the tax dollars pay for my upgrade?....after all we gotta eat...it all comes out of my banked funds..my profit...after all it is a private industry.

So the big question here is....why will we have to pay with our tax dollars to replace the 16 miles of Alaska pipeline instead of the private oil company using some of their billions they banked in the last quarter? Isn't it owned by a private industry?....They have stated they cut down on some of the anti-corroding material they use in the line to save money..a bigger profit? Do we actually get to use the oil they pump anyhow or is it sold to Japan or some place else for their billions profit?...I suspect I will get an added expense to my per gallon of gasoline to they can fix the line and continue to sell it elsewhere for profit......so why should I send my tax dollars to repair the line?

Well, the short answer is that you're dealing with a beaurocracy, and that you're pretty much screwed. The government is so lost in its own pile of crap, that we should probably go back to the constitution and bill of rights and restart from there. there are millions of injustices like you point out, and yet we're all powerless to do anything about it. To be truthful, I prefer to be ignorant of all this, because what I know just gets me pissed.

Either way you slice it, you will be paying for the repairs to the pipeline, whether it be through tax dollars or increased gas prices. However, I do agree that those that drive cars, me included, should be paying for the expense through gas increases versus taxpayers who do not drive having to pay for it.
