grrrr wal-mart hunting video *RANT*

OK OK I know I have said it before, but darnit wal-mart is startin' ta really tick me off. The other night I was in the sportin' good section of the local wal-mart and there was a huntin' video playin' on the small TV on the checkout counter. These guys where blastin' away at antelope, and I MEAN blastin' away. There where three guys shootin' at a heard and talkin' about what great shots they where makin'. While I stood there I counted 18 shots at a heard of antelope. Two went down durin' the barage and these idiots are slappin' each other on the back talkin' about a great hunt! WHAT A CROCK! Here I wonder why soooo many anti-hunters are out there hate us then I see crapola like this playin' in the sportin' goods section! That ain't huntin' and it sure aint the way a hunter acts. The problem is all those people walkin' by don't know that. I turned off the TV as I left in disgust. The cashier (who was nowhere to be found the whole time) suddenly materializes and asks what I am doin', so me and him go round and round until a CSM shows up to find out what the trouble is. Well I let him know what the darned trouble was, the CSM didn't believe me so we switched the thing back on and he rewound the tape and watched it himself. After about ten minutes he shrugs and informs me that there shouldn't be a problem because thats the way hunters hunt! Well we went round and round again until they paged the manager. At least he was more responsive (Apparently he hunts himself) and the tape was promptly yanked. It turns out that the tape is a demo tape for a huntin' series they don't even carry! They just wanted to see if hunters would be interested in the series! Well alot of hunters may not have said nuthin', but ya can bet yer sweet behind they know what my opinion is on the matter!

Good for you, GOB. Nicely done.

The China Marts up here in NE OH barely have fishing tackle on their walls, let alone decent hunting equipment, but I haven't seen any inappropriate "hunting" videos displayed. I would hope to have half the gall you did to do the same if I ever discover something similar, at China Mart or anywhere.

Videos like that bother me as well. As you say, it's just not hunting, but Bill and Tipper Sixpack Lib don't know that.

Way to go Goodolboy. I'm glad to see someone stand up for their beliefs, although I'm sure you are in a minority because this is not very "politically correct". But darn it, if you don't stand up for yourself, who will?

With Wall-Mart stopping selling guns in many of their locations, and now displaying videos like this, I can't help wonder if they haven't caved in to the anti-gun, anti-hunting crowd.

They was shootin at runnin antelope w/ a rifle??
shoot...I woulda let the dern thing play just to show everybody how bad a shot they was How far was them antelope from them fools anyways? Any of ya'll that can kill a runnin antelope @ 350 yards...well...more power to ya..

however..i must say that we shoot at runnin deer..so iffin i was in a situation where i can shoot at a herd of runnin deer...i would do so. I can also take 2 per day...so if it was a good group of grown deer...I would probaly attempt to take 2....that is iffin the conditions was right to do so. Does this put me in the same catagory as those fellas? I dont hardly think so. I'm a huntin and I dam sure aint gonna starve. All is fair in love and huntin...

Good job GOB. I hate crap like that on video. Heck, I hate most of the video I see out there. Almost all of it is geared to people just shooting birds and animals left and right. Very little educational about it. Granted, the first year or two I watched the more decent shows, I thought they were great. However, in year three or four, I started to wonder about them. Some of the pheasant hunting looked like it was done on planted, pen raised, birds. Then, who really wants to just see a bunch of guys shooting a bunch of animals. There is one good show out there that I have seen a couple of times, and it is a father and son bowhunting show where they try to teach the viewers about bowhunting and give them pointers. Sure, they show some hunts, but I think at least half their show is dedicted to education.

Poor shooting is done by those of us that just do not have the time to get out and practice. However, my feeling is that if you do not have the time to go out and practice, then you shouldn't be out hunting. Spend that time set aside for hunting, for shooting. However, few people subscribe to that.

I have shot a couple of running deer in my lifetime, but they were all close deer that got up from brush that they were hiding it and I could count the number on one hand. Nothing over 50 yards and they were all killed with my slug gun. If you are hunting to eat, and I mean you need the food, which I know people that do, then I am fine with the blasting until the animal falls if you do not have a decent chance of seeing another. Used to be that way here in Maryland. Now, we have so many deer that you can almost kill one each time out with a gun. Now, if you aren't meat hunting or you are meat hunting but will probably see other deer that day, that is a different story.

In serch of a good show..lets see...Opra vs hunt show.....soap vs. fishing show.....where are the hunting/ fishing shows?..Poker isn't what I was looking for on my outdoor station..or the ab six pack maker gizmo..heck if I want to watch my weight all I have to do is look down and yep..can see it..anyhow, tv ratings is one thing they all shoot for. It doesn't stop at the news media. Seems everyone is out to make a hunting..excuse me..shooting video to make the fast buck...I only watch them for the chance to see the woods...I know someone either paid a farmer to let them on their posted ground to shoot the big one or paid somoene else to scout for him....I have watched Ted Barta doing it his way..once braggnig about his long bow shot at a running bou.(very unsportsman like) .but someone thinks he is the greatest....yea right...slob hunter/fisherman in my book after watching him in action...
Turn it off...bring it to their attention and continue in the fight to convince anti-hunters that isn't the way 'sportsmen' do it....is a long and hard road .....just don't do it with a 'hot headed' attitude......Something else that needs attention is when news media reports a shooting...of a child.(17 dealing drugs in middle of night)...even though shot with a shotgun...they show in the backround the semi-auto handgun picture on the wall...is a hard fight against the antis...I have grumped to them about this....but oh well.
Keep a check on these videos in stores...I'm not sure if it is the policy of the store itself...or those in charge of a certain store....bring it to the attention of Walmart home base....I ran into the guy put in charge of the fishing/ hunting section of local store and it was loaded with everything a guy could want...when he left the section..it changed...a woman in charge now...you will only find a few hooks and sinkers there.....I was told it depended on what the person in charge wanted to order...more golf/ab trimmers....maybe that is why walmart removed some guns from the stores in areas.....got a bad report on sales of outdoor hunting items from those in charge of that section??...an anti??

The first couple of times I watched Tred Barta, I thought he was the real deal. Then, his true side started to show and it made me sick. I don't watch that one anymore either. DU TV was pretty good for a while, but I don't see it on anymore. Maybe because I rarely watch TV anymore. I watch an occassional movie now and then, but try to spend my extra time between hunting, fishing, shooting, and cycling, and this chat board and a cycling chat board. That keeps me pretty busy.

As far as I am concerned, TV's should be thrown out the window.

I think a video like "Exploding Varmints IV...Up Close and Personal" would be more appropriate.

Ahh come on, Fabs...Tred is THE MAN!!! How many guys do you know that would poke a Grizzly with a sharp stick or piss in his waders?

Yeah, well let's see him poke a grizzly with a sharp stick without a couple of guides behind him with magnum rifles. Then I will say he is the man. Crazy, but the man. By the way, I saw that episode.

Tred lives off of theatrics. Trying to shoot ducks and geese with a bow. I saw the goose hunting episode and it was horrible. I also saw the episode where he killed a duck with the bow, and it was pretty clear that he wasn't even aiming at it. The one he was aiming at was coming straight in, moved at the last second, and Tred ended up hitting another duck that was coming by. Of course, he didn't admit that he wasn't aiming at it. Oh no, he did it the hard way, "The Tred Barta way" and don't you ever let anybody tell you that you cannot do it, because that dog just won't hunt. Writing that makes me want to puke.

Good for you GOB, that kind of crappy footage sounds more like something from that ABC show "The Guns of Autumn" than a representation of hunting.... And as for that clerk that just said "That's how hunters hunt"... he can keep his prejudices and bigotries off the store floor... after all, is it good business to go insulting the customers in the departments that cater to them?

personally, I'd prefer them to simply play the safety videos that make up part of thier stock... That Outdoor Life hunter safety video, for example. Keep the "horn porn" where it belongs, out of sight.

When Rush Limbaugh began championing Wal-Mart, I realized that I was not a republican... and that Rush is a tool

I'm thoroughly convinced that some people have no other purpose/reason/desire to exist other than to go to "Waw-Mark" and spend their SSI check.
