A real surprise
Went outside Monday morning about 0900 because the dogs were barking. Imagine my surprise when I went out and finally saw...less than 50 yds from the house...wolves. Not one but 8. No camera...and no gun.. They were taking a real good look at the cows in the field so I jumped on the Polaris and gave chase real quick. Chased 'em away from there in a hurry. Seemed to be traveling from the area called the Thoroughfare(near Yellowstone) to the Bighorn Mountains. They weren't scared of me or the dogs at all. They didn't care for the 4 wheeler chasin them though. Pretty big critters. The smallest was about the size of my 65 lb lab

Skeet, the wolf huggers swore that these critters do not range out of jellystone!!!!!Keep an eye out, this could be a problem.

Skeet, I was just in the Thorofare a last week, plenty of wolves there now.
The only thing that would slow them down is Deer Creek Pass. There's no doubt in my mind they'll spread from the whole Yellowstone Ecosystem to the Bighorns, and I don't know what would keep them from crossing I-80 to invade Colorado. Things are a changin' right before our eyes.

Well GOB.. I didn't have the first S right at hand. When I chased them out of the pasture they ran past my neighbors place. He happened to see some of them too. His horses went a little crazy. There were a couple other wolves that came past our places last year. My neighbor told me it seems we are in a kind of natural corridor for animals to travel. He has seen wolves bears elk and even a moose. Plenty moose in the Bighorns..right now. When the wolves get up there in force. They'll get wiped out pretty quick.
MTP...I know from your previous elk post that ya got yourself one on that hunt. I especially liked your advice to the elk hunters out there. I told a friend of mine that went to Montana to hunt elk to quit smoking and get in good shape before he went. He didn't make it but 2 days....and according to him he almost died up there. Your observation on the elk is the same as I have been hearing. Talked to a fellow who hunted the Thorofare this year. He hunts it most every year I guess. He said the elk numbers are so far down he's seeing only 10-20% of the animals he saw 5 yrs ago. He also said the size of the bulls he has been seeing is significantly smaller too.. But that may be subjective. I do know that some of the hunters who hunt the bighorns are swearing to shoot every wolf they see. Wyoming has to find a way to keep the numbers in check or there will be a lot of the S S S. From what I have been told there are quite a few wolves that have tracking devices on them.
