Military surplus arms are fine deer rifles.
I began deer hunting in PA in 1958 with a vintage military arm and still hunt deer with such arms. In PA we may not hunt deer with semi-autos, so the Garands, Hakims, Tokarevs and G-43s, etc., are verboten.
I have to pick between a P-17 Enfield, an M38 6.5x55 Swede or a MkIII .303 for opening day. In PA, most deer are shot within 100 yards, so any rifle that shoots to the sights at 100 yards will do just fine, so long as one can find any deer after the PGC deer decimation campaign begun under Gary Alt. Who else hunts deer with vintage military arms? Adam

I have the past.
In OKla we are not restricted from using semi's, only they have to have a 5 round mag or less while hunting deer. I have a sportised #3 mk1 that i use for a brush gun, Mosin nagant M44 that works as a brush gun as well. Turk mauser, 2 M91/30's I have not used for deer, but plan to later on, and I know they will work just fine ![]() |

For tree stand hunting or hunting at 100 yards or less most of my iron sighted military rifles will do. I've taken my K98,type38 Arisaka carbine,M91/30 Mosin with the baynot on it

Scottyx25,
Welcome to the Forum. Apparently you are allowed to use semi-autos for hunting in your part of Canada. Would you provide us some insight on the legal parameters of using and owning a semi-auto in Canada today? Do you have to register all firearms? At what cost per firearm? Do you have storage requirements like in a gun vault, etc.? Again, welcome to this site. Adam

Thx for the welcome guys,
All center fire semiautos can only have a 5 shot mag.and yes all of our firearms must be registered but that might change with the long guns, and registering is free at the moment. For storage they can be chained or put in a locked room. Scotty, ![]()
