Outside my garage door
I went to take Nitro out at 5:00 today, and got to see a bunch of wildlife while doing so. I see more wildlife around my townhouse than when I go hunting.
Here are a couple of pics:

While watching those 4 deer, one of which was a spiked buck, I was treated to a couple hundred geese flying by. Focusing on them and taking good pics is tough when they are in flight. I was hoping they would come straight at me, but they didn't.

Here is one last pic. These birds fly so low through our parking lot that I wouldn't have a problem taking them down with the SBE, except for the fact that I would get arrested.

Great pics!
I remember looking out of my bedroom window, and seeing bucks in my back yard as a kid. Then wondering why the heck I walk a few miles through a foot of snow to see squat

Skeeter,
The one laying down is indeed the spike. The one to the left was initially about 5 feet from me before I spooked her and she ran over to the spike. She was feeding along a concrete wall when I walked up to take the picture. Didn't check into the farm because things have changed for me. My wife is pregnant, so that takes priority over the purchase of a farm right now. The farm will probably have to wait until next year, or maybe even further on down the line. I need to see how expensive children are first.

Fabs, an answer to how expensive kids are. I raised 2 of them. When they are young, it isn't too bad. One thing is you get to buy them some of the toys you like to play with. Now I raised girls and barbie toys weren't my style but they did get into the outdoors so that worked some. When my one girl was only learning to walk, my wife asked me for some cash one time and when I looked at the kid, her hand was out too..Maybe that is just something they are born with. Now comes school days. This is when it starts to get expensive. Need the clothes, all the trips and things they get into in school. Then college...whew, can only imagine what that will cost when yours are old enough..At least mine are through all that and both have good men and jobs..I tease everyone that says, can't do this or that because going to have a baby. Well if you wait to do those things later, never happen at least until they are on their own...I have sold harleys, motorhomes and some other toys to get them through school etc thinking I can replace them later..yea right...prices have gone up so much I can't see much happening here....
Congrats too. Nothing like your own for sure...Best for all of you. Then some kids grow up to be your worst nightmare. Take my brother for example. His oldest son is still in jail and I have spoken of some of his dealings in the past on some posts....Well, I guess these problems along with his health, alcohol and finances were just too much for the guy. He is 4 years younger than I and he shot himself tonigt..At least now he is at peace.

Skeeter,
Thanks for the well wishes and I am sorry to hear about your nephew. That really sucks. I hope you brother and the rest of your family get through this. I have no idea why people commit suicide, but what sucks the most is leaving loved ones behind to deal with it. I had a meeting with a client earlier in the spring regarding a domestic violence charge that he had and the possible custody battle with his wife over his son. I told him that everything would be okay, and thought he felt that way too. I ended up talking to him later that night by phone. Well, he was staying at his sister's house because there was a restraining order preventing him from staying with his wife and son. First thing on Sunday morning, I get a frantic call from his sister saying that my services were no longer needed because he had killed himself. He hanged himself by the tree in the back yard so that his sister would find him in the morning when she went out for her smoke. His wife went to an Orioles game the very next morning. She even made a friend of mine pay for the death certificate so that he could provide it to the sheriff and spare the child seeing the sheriff looking for his deceased dad. Things are insane sometimes. Oh yeah, I don't plan on selling anything to finance my kid(s) college education. If I have the money, I will help out. If I don't have the money, they had better have really good grades for a scholarship or they will be getting a loan. Something tells me everything is going to work out.

Fabs, I didn't sell everything now..lol..still have my truck camper and one I keep at the sportsmens club..even getting the ok from the boss hen to get a new camper for there next year..lmao..As far as the little ones go, yea is what the world is all about..you will have the best times of your life when they are here..enjoy.
Oh it was my brother that shot himself and not nephew. I pulled some strings though and got his son out of jail and probation for a long long time..see how long that long time turns out to be. Coffee is done, time to sit on porch and listen to my favorite sound....the sound of NOTHING..best time of the day. OH and I spoke to Carol the owner of that farm. When she told me she had some lawyers checking it over, I was wondering if was you so is why asking. Lost another hunting spot this past saturday. While there with my bow 2 young boys were hunting what I think was everything that moved and someones house must have taken a hit or close anyhow cause the guy posted it to all..they had to have shot at least 50 times.I have not had a chance to speak to the owner yet. Is a nice 12 and a 10 hanging there too..

Skeeter,
Can you remind me how much they are selling that farm for. My brother has a bunch of money burning a hole through his pocket, no mortgage, and he is looking to invest it in something. The farm might be a good idea for him. Sorry to hear about your brother. I was wondering if you were refering to your brother or nephew, and just decided that it was your nephew. You seem to be taking it pretty well, which I guess is good.

Around 700g. Not too bad for workable acreage that gets leased out, 2 mobile homes on it that can be rented. Would help cut costs. Has enough huntable woods bordering gamelands she timbers now and then for tax money. Around here it is priced right for a farm. Help, I need someone that would let my girls and I keep hunting the land...lol..

Took this last Sunday about 30 min from the house, while out chasing deer.
Sorry the photo is kind of poor, I only had the cell phone to shoot with at about 10yrds. It was in a no shoot zone. Bob the Cat Last edited by Mil Dot; 10-27-2006 at 10:34 AM. |

Mil Dot,
Can't really see the pic (i.e., it comes up as a red X). Skeeter, I'll talk to my brother about the farm, but I think we are leaning toward rental condos right now. If I had the money, you can bet I would be buying it and letting you continue to hunt there.
