Always been a big fan of Outdoor Life. Not really sure why but Field & Stream never did it for me.

I'm afraid I've all but given up on all of them. Field & Stream got in your face with Dave Petzal's imitation of Don Rickles in the editorial page. Peterson's Hunting has turn over to almost all new writers from the ones I liked years back (Sitton, Boddington, Coogan). Sports Afield went wishy washy a few years back. Even Bugle Magazine from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is a little to "warm & fuzzy" for me. Too many stories like "What does an elk feel when he is being hunted". And earlier there were too many "lets make room for the wolf" stories. That's changing a little.

Anyway, I should get down off my cynical soap box and remember happier days in my youth reading Jim Charmichel, Ed Zern, Gene Hill......

MT, you were an Ed Zern fan too? My hero-Rancid Crabtree. I always read Fur-Fish-Game cover to cover. These days I read the mags I get with my memberships to DU-Delta Waterfowl- and Wild Turkey Fed. The worse part of Field and Stream is trying to cancel or rather not renew the subscription. I went through that with them continuing to send me mags and also sending past due invoices and threatening to turn over to collection agency when I, in fact had not ordered the mags.

I used to subscribe to RIFLE, but the gun rags grew old. When I noticed they were all jumping on the bandwagon, endorsing what the sponsors told them to.

But my favorite writer by far is John Barsness (& his wife Eileen Clark), followed by his old boss Craig Boddington. But a lot of my other 'must readers' just went............weak? When they recomend a Tasco World Class, after the move to China (before the Bushnell take over), or phrase the Remington 710 as being a great rifle, I decided I would just stick with y'all here at HC for all my hunting advice.

But I do like John's idea of a well placed shot, in a moderate caliber (ie 7x57 or .257bob), over the oompf of shoulder busters. And his realistic 'scope test' that he does, and I have read articles where he flat out writes that such-and-such is a suck brand.

But I do not subscribe to anything any more...........

I don't read them. Nothing new.

We still get the Rifleman and American Hunter as my son and I are life members.

Hi Skinny

I don't subscribe to any magazines as I live in the U.K. and i've never hunted.

The reason I started this thread was to get some feedback for my website, so that i can offer good info to my visitors, especiely for the next generation of hunters who are growing up.

As i live in England, i have to research the web for all my info, i only started it in mid june this year and have over 50 pages up.Now that you know my secret it would be nice to know what you think of my site, ie, does it look ok with the content on the topics covered ?

Cheers to you all who have contributed to my post, much appreciated
