what is this 6.8 SPC
I keep seeing this ammo on a few websites I have been to, what is 6.8SPC, does it convert to some old caliber by another name or is it a new caliber that has recently been marketed?

Check out the GunHunter Magazine website. they've got an article on the round there. Hope that's a help.

The 6.8 is a new round designed to get a bigger bullet diameter into the dimensions of a 5.56 NATO, so that the 6.8 can be (and is) chambered in the AR-15/M-16/M-4 rifles.
6.8mm converts to the 270 bullet diameter, and the parent case is I believe, the old 30 Remington. As a civilian cartridge, it doesn't offer anything, as the ballistic performance is far less than the 270 Winchester of the same bullet diameter. I suppose if you have an AR-15 in 223 currently, and want something that makes a bit larger hole, it might have some appeal.

It would make a decent moderate-range whitetail round, especially for somebody who can't take any recoil at all. But it wouldn't be any better at that job than a good old 250 Savage.
It doesn't seem that the military is falling over itself to adopt it, either.
