Another Dam problem
Ok, short of shooting the construction workers I have or waiting for trapping season, is there any repellent of some sort that can stop a beaver from the competition we have with his dam? Momma beaver has fired a few of her dam builders thinking they aren't worth a dam but in short I am getting tired of removing these things...they are flooding my area and overnight are back building again....She has hired the big boss builder and this guy gets serious building supports behind the thing and all thinking that is the reason they keep washing out....lol...I have a feeling one of these days he will be sitting on the other side waiting for me or just watching to see why they keep washing out.....lol...Help!

Nope.
Only one way to stop dam rebuilding--eradication of the construction workers. One big tip---you are not going to shoot all of them, and by trying you will make it that much more difficult for anyone that tries to trap them. Beaver are not that easy to kill by shooting.I have had dozens and dozens of people tell me about those they have killed by shooting. It is truly amazing, the number of bullets I have removed when skinning beaver I have trapped. I agree your far better off to use a combination of conis sets, and castor mound sets with foot traps on drowning rigs. No one I know that does Beaver trapping management professionally shoots them.

BTW you should be able to get a nuscience trapping permit if your the land owner and they are flooding timber or damaging timber that is being accessed by the flooding. That will let you trap year round. Call your local game agency.

shooting is effective!
I hate to be this guy, but beavers can be successfully shot. We do it every spring and fall up here in AK. We use scoped .22 or .22 magnums. .17 HMR is also a good round. We shoot them as they swim with one shot to the head. It takes a little practice, but can be very deadly. We killed 27 in 8 hours last May.

There is no problem that cannot be solved with a suitable application of high explosives. . . . . . . .

Kusko,go into a pond with a full colony of 10 or so beaver.Try exterminating that colony by shooting.
You may get a few--but odds are you ain't going to get them all.But you will wise the rest up,so they are more difficult for the trapper called in to finnish the job. My guess is--you float the rivers when hunting beaver.Your state is one of just a few, that allows the hunting of beavers. In most states it is illegal. While explosives will remove a dam,and it is quite a sight to see--if the beav are still there, they will rebuild. Tom Olson
