Farewell 2006 season
Last hunt of the year, kind of a bonus hunt since we're usually ice fishing on Thanksgiving around here. We did break ice in the dark to get out on the lake on Saturday, we had ice flows push our decoys around but it was the best hunt we had all year. The big mallards were down, they were cagey but we got a few flocks in and got a 4 man limit. We also got 3 big honkers, 10-12 lbs. Should have had a few more, but that's another story. Overall, a great hunt to end the season with. I hope the rest of you can get out for what time you have left where you hunt.

Glad you had a good last day of ducken'. I have not been out yet. It has been to warm, and I have not seen many birds around. Saw my 1st snow birds of the year Sat. so maybe the birds are starting to move on down this way. If we don't get some weather I'll be deer hunting alot.

Great pics MT. Glad you closed out the season with a bang. I got out last weekend for my first goose hunt this season and we killed a couple. We too should have killed more, but the dog and the geese were not cooperative.

End of the season?!!!
Wow! I guess for once I can say I'm glad I live in California! We're only 1/3 the way through our season and the best part is yet to come. Great way to close it out, MT! You guys SPANKED the greenies! Fabs, from the sound of it, does Nitro need to brush up on his shooting skills?

TD,
Last year I bought layout blinds for my dad and me, and I also bought a dog hut for Nitro. Last year, he just could not stay in that blind when he saw geese coming in. Even if it was a single. We had a group of three coming straight in last year, wings set, landing gear down, and as soon as they got to within 80 yards, Nitro shot out of that blind like a rocket. Last weekend, he was pretty good with the small groups, but we had a bunch around us for about 30 minutes. Some were groups of 50+ and there were bunches of small groups all over the place. I guess he just couldn't handle the excitement and he vlew out of the hut when a group of four decided to come in. Before I knew what happened, he was already 100 yards away chasing after the birds, but as soon as I started yelling at him he stopped on a dime, came back, and ran right into the hut. What is hard to understand is that as soon as I put that hut up while we were setting up, he ran right into it as if he knew that was where he is supposed to be. The excitement is what is killing him. I'll have it worked out by the end of the season though.
