case lub
I am all set to do some reloading this weekend.
I just found out that I do not have any case lub. I live out in the middle of no where. No place to get any. Is there a subtitute for case lub that is easy to come by? |

For starters, you cannot just use any old oil or grease. You'll certainly stick a case in the sizing die.
There are a few more or less acceptable substitutes, but they are nowhere near as good as the real thing. (The best of the real thing being Imperial Sizing Die Wax, which you should buy or order ASAP.) You can use a dab of pure anhydrous lanolin (available at some drug stores), or STP. The lanolin is better for your hands. None require you to goop the stuff on. Just get your fingers slick with it and roll the case through those fingers a bit. Completely wash it off your hands before you touch a primer.

Not my prefered method but I got caught with my shorts down once and ran out of Imperial and used Crisco.
Just rub your palms and fingers with it and then roll the casings back and forth in your hands, worked in the pinch. Pay special attention to the casing sides. Thats where it's needed most anyway. Don't goop too much on the shoulders and necks as that causes crumpled shoulders. humm. Just re-read this and it almost sounds lewd and lascivious. Best wishes, Bill

Oh yeah! I forgot about Crisco!
Candle wax? Nope. Way too thick and not lubricious enough. LUBRICIOUS?!? Sounds too much like lascivious, huh? Real word, though.

Ditto on "not preferred" but I use Pam (cooking spray available at any grocery) when I run low on the professional goop (I use Dillons spray normally).
I dont spray it on the cases though, you will get grease dents. Spray it lightly on a paper towel or cloth and roll the cases for a very light coat. This stuff is slicker than snot on a doorknob (dont ask me how I know). Riposte
