Death Valley(Mojave desert)
Well a couple weeks ago I made the move from Sacramento to Anaheim. Been poking around online for some places to go hunting and found one about 2-3 hours away. The Mojave desert has a preserve that covers over 1 million acres of huntable land. In the mountains there are mule deer and bighorns but in the area that I ventured to last weekend it seems there would be tons of coyotes and foxes. Took a little walk with the .357 and popped a BIG jackrabbit.
going back up north to get a rifle or two(.270win and maybe the .17rem?), the binos and some jackrabbit distress calls. anyone ever hunted this region? |

If your ever in the Victorville area there are lots of old abandoned mines and caves in that area. If you get the chance also get to Calico. It's one of those places that gives you goose bumps as your walking around it.
Lots of history in that area, good and bad. Watch your P's and Q's if you go cave exploring though and preferably go with someone that is experienced. It's fun but it can be dangerous. In the Hesperia area there used to be a lot of off road dirt biking, don't know if thats still available or not. I haven't been back to that country since '69. The desert is just like a beautiful woman, the beauty is there but it can turn around and kill you quickly. Best wishes, Bill |

We passed through Victorville but never got off the highway. LOTS of OHV parks around that area.
Something erie about that desert. Nobody around for miles and more quiet than I've ever heard in my life. Gonna try my hand at some calling this weekend. |

Victorville and Adelanto were thriving communities when I was there but I hear they have slipped a notch or two since then. George Air Force spread a lot of money around those two towns. When it closed it was more or less a death warrant for the area.
The Roy Rogers Museum was something to see but I don't know if it's still there or not. The Embers was a great place to eat. Fabulous food and drinks. We used to dirt bike across the desert and while riding never seen a single animal. I was always surprised because of the vastness and lack of animals. Maybe I was there at a bad time. Have fun, let me know if you see anything. I'm interested. Best wishes, Bill |

It's incredibly beautiful at night. About 20 years ago I went with some friends to ride quads for a couple days and the one thing I remember best was the midnight ride we took. I saw more stars than I'd ever seen before; absolutely incredible. You couldn't even see lights on the horizons.

well i've seen a jackrabbit and some dropping left by others. also seen some that were either fox or coyote and plenty of tracks in various sizes. sometimes the loose sand doesn't leave much detail for tracks.
