The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Truly, have you ever seen one of these zealots live the life they want to preach?

Exactly they expect you to totally change your lifestyle but don't expect them to change. That might cause some discomfort in their lives.

It looks like he's done pretty well for himself in the "public service" sector for all his adult life.

I don't understand how politicians can afford to live this lifestyle, they're paid well for what they do, but I don't think you could keep this up on his pension from being a Senator or VP.

Where does the money come from to live like this ??

Most of his money was his Daddy's old money. His family has been loaded for years. Tobacco farms, mineral rights, rental property, and lots of illegal campaign contributions. They own a huge farm about 1 hour east of Nashville in a small town call Carthage. Talking to the people in that town, he owns the whole town or at least runs it.

Thanks for the info., I never did much research on the guy since I never planned to vote for him anyway.

It kills me how wealthy people stand on a podium and pound their fist that they're for the little guy, and understand what he's going through, (Kennedy, Kerry, Gore....)

I'm not saying that others are better, people just have to know that they shouldn't count on ANY policitician to really know or care what is in your best interest.

And don't forget, he did invent the internet as we know it today, so I sure he still receives some royalties for that. Lucky for us!

It was my understanding that his family also holds the patent for Gore-Tex, but I don't have any real evidence to back that up. It is mostly hearsay. Anybody know anything about this? I just spent 5 minutes trying to research it and it was a nightmare.

I don't hold being rich against anybody. Wish I was myself. But, I don't like someone who is loaded trying to put himself as being "the man of the people", especially when he is living a large, highly consumptive lifestyle.

The sad thing is that "the people" believe the crap shoveled by these politicians.
