Pat Tillman
Pat Tillman,
You know this is getting old. I do respect the fact he quit a multi million dollar career in the NFL to serve, but why don't the press get as hot and bothered when PFC ANYBODY from small town USA gets killed from friendly fire? I know of a friendly fire incident when I was in Desert Storm, not much came of it at all. The media knew, but he wasn't famous so it didn't matter. I think the Walter Reed issues would better fill a page of news, but then again they (editors) just want to sell issues, and kiss Hillary's butt.

True Jon, but that's just how being famous is played out, so there's not much average Joe can do about that. There is always much more 'Bad' news than 'Good' news . . .
But, speaking of Walter Reed, if you want a clearer picture on that, check out the Chaplain's E-mail at: SNOPES CHAPLAINS EMAIL |

Fame. Its the same reason that the Anna Nicole check-out is still in the news. But they don;t cover the drug related deaths that occur every day.
Firendly fire is a tragedy, but I think the blood that the news wolves are scenting is the apparent misrepresentation of it as enemy fire. They have another "scandal" do decry.

About the only news I listen to any more is financial news. However, even that is quite hilarious. It all depends who is giving the news or forecasts. I find it quite hilarious that the Association of Realtors are forecasting a turnaround in real estate this summer, but most other economists aren't. I'm sure the mortgage companies and brokers are projecting a turn around too. This way, we can have even more foreclosures next year. They made their money over the last 5 years, now they are going to weather one heck of a storm.
I could get started on the Pat Tillman issue and the Anna Nicole issue, but that would be a waste of my time and I am trying to get a ride in today. Suffice it for me to say that it makes me sick. Kind of like the OJ trial. Normal soldiers, druggies, and murderers don't get this kind of fame from what they do, but these celebrities do. The reason they do is because people like Jon click on the articles and read them. If AOL, Yahoo, and whoever else is out there didn't have us clicking on these stupid articles, then they wouldn't be posting them. Such is life. Okay, I am off to ride and receive my dose of pain for the day.

Quote:
I am not remotely a fan of the news wolves, but if a "media scandal" is what is required here to cause high-ranking heads to roll, then I am all for it. The issue at this point is not the friendly fire. Fratricide is a terrible and tragic thing, but in the "fog of war" it can and does happen. What is at issue now is the shameless and heartless manner in which the Army went to great lengths to withhold that info from the Tillman family. What really makes it outrageous is the fact that the Army did almost exactly the same thing in Desert Storm in 1991. It came back to bite them in the butt big time then. They apparently learned nothing from the experience. If you are genuinely interested in the 1991 Desert Storm incident and its relevance to the Tillman matter, I recommend that you go to the link below and read the story. It is a long read, but if your time is limited, pay special emphasis to Part II, which details the aftermath, coverup and the revelation of the coverup. It's a sorry, sordid story that was repeated almost verbatim in the Tillman affair. http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Qu...roduction.html
