Why do we say SOY milk?

I was pondering the fact that the food market is kinda pro tree hugger. I was watching a documentary over tofu and soy milk, and it was as terriable as you would imagine.

When it showed the making of the 'milk' it was a simple process, and I learned it is mere bean juice, I expected a bit more with the 'milk' lable. The tofu was a byproduct of the same process, making a soy sponge. The Chinese here call it bean curd...............rymes with crud.

My daughter wanted to experiment with the veggy side, although she is quite the little carnivore. But I got some cheap 'soy milk' and tofu ( x2) and I even sampled it.........YUCKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!

It was actually WORSE than I imagined, and boy do I have an imagination! That was "Pure-Evil" in liquid and sponge form. And it valdidated my theory, I from this day foreward will call it by their correct names:

Soy -milk- shall be called truthfully: "Bean Juice" for viggen geeks.

Tofu, shall be "Flavorless Sponge like blob"(I would say Sponge Blob but am worried about lawsuits): for tree huggers who won't eat meat but have to pretend for some reason to have a main course.

What really makes me angry, my daughter said she likes that crap
But it's her 13th birthday, she'll grow out of that next time I grill some steaks, and I feel that will be soon.

Grill some steaks and tofu burgers together and put both on the table for everybody. This lets her decide what she wants to eat. Hopefully, she will come to her senses. Honestly, I have no idea why people feel like they shouldn't have any animal products. Yes, I believe in a healthy diet with a good amount of vegetables and fruit, but also with meat and dairy products too.

You will never catch me eating tofu, except in miso soup, and you will never catch me drinking soy milk unless we have some very, very hard times and that is my only option.

I believe the real reason soy milk exists is for those who are lactose intolerant.

My daughter heard that soy is excellent source of protien, and I am trying to tell her the grilled steak, milk and eggs she eats with us at the table is all protien. Soy bean juice and sponge blob are for tree huggers who do not get protien from real dead tasty animal flesh Which she has no problem with, she helps me with skinning and portioning roe.

But I stand by my 'NOT MILK' statements

Jon, ya wanna really twist their minds? Call it "bean blood." Hey, it's the circulatory fluid of a living thing isn't it?

Ya mean they take those living beans and crush them until their blood runs out? And then you DRINK it? EWWWWwwwwww!

Unless it comes from some itsy-bitsy little bean udder, IT AIN'T MILK.

Btw, tofu or bean curd is flavorless served alone. But it does take on the flavor of any liquid it's cooked with. In some things, it's not bad at all. The texture may be a bit off-putting to some, but in soups and such it's great. Really. No, I'd never pick a tofu steak in place of the real thing, just saying that tofu as its place. (OK, all you wits can now chime in with "place" suggestions, LOL!)

My youngest daughter's son has a high allergic reaction to many foods. A glass of milk will darn near put him in the hospital, so all he can drink is soy milk. He can eat chicken and fish, but not beef, lamb or ham. I suppose there is place for that stuff, but I'm also thankful that it is there or the poor kid would just about starve to death.

Paul, I don't intend to mock those who have a need for it. The people who choose it over the real stuff are the ones who get my goat. And the naming of it.

Rocky, I would stuff it in a turkey maybe to flavor pieces of soy sponge. But I am more of a cornbread stuffing kinda guy................

i think the non-meat eating "organic" yuppies feel some sense of self righteousness when living the green life. i personally am one of the poor souls who have two options, dont eat cereal or deal with soy. soy it is, as a part of something not bad, baking and the such, i wouldnt recommend drinking a glass, it taste like plastic. although "silk" has a chocolate soy milk..... i must say not too shabby
