Rifle/Shotgun combo?

Just returned from a spring bear hunt in Eastern Oregon. We also had turkey tags in our pockets. It has always been a decision to decide which fire arm to pack. It always seems that a guy makes the wrong choice. To me, a perfect gun would be a two barrel type that had calibers that you could shoot bears in some open type country out to 300 yards and also have a shotgun barrel to kill a turkey with. Anybody make one? Thoughts?

(by the way, we passed on 6 bears and I couldn't close the deal on a Tom)

If you can find it here in the states, Valmet Model 412K combo shotgun/rifle 12-gauge over 30-06.

Savage had a 30-30/12ga offering at one time, I believe. Long range bear would be out of the picture but 150yd or less it should do. They were available in a few different calibers/gas as I remember. I haven`t seen one in some time, a uncle had one in 22/20 ga but I don`t recall the model # off hand.

I think savage still makes the rifel shot gun combo.

My Dad used to have a 20 gauge/22 magnum over and under! It was the best rabbit gun I have ever seen! Rabbit sitting, you shoot him with the 22 mag, running you give them the 20 gauge! I haven't seen one like it before or since!

Welcome to HuntChat JCM. There's a wide range and variety in Europe, mostly because a tag isn't purchased only for one specific type of animal to hunt here, i.e., when hunting you could shoot everything from boar, deer, hare, pheasant, fox, etc, of course they'd all have to be in season.

They are more expensive than a single barrel gun, but if you figure you've got 2 or 3 barrels and one scope, the price is more manageable than say purchasing three separate bolt guns.

Most times when I go hunting by myself, I take a three barrel weapon called a Bockdrilling, 20ga mag over a 30-06 with a hornet barrel to the side of them. It has double triggers and a selector for hornet or '06. There are a large number of combination weapons new and used in Europe, just not so popular and a bit harder to find in the states, partly due to stateside hunting laws. All of a sudden I think I need another gun Their are some real beauties out there but I think my price range will have to be under $1200. I like the Valmet or Tikka's with the 30-06 combo so far but don't know if I find one in my price range or how many others are out there that I haven't heard of yet. I'm kind of a stainless steel/ synthetic stock guy. (I have a couple of Sako 75's)
I'll probably have a couple of years to look as that is about how long it will be before I draw a Oregon spring bear tag again.

EAA used to import a russian made bakail, pretty decent combo, available in 6.5x55/12, would fill the bill almost as well as a valmet in 308/12 or 30-06/12, and cheaper, though I prefer the valmet.
