Two Barrels and One Gun...

Ok, I am a Yard Sale person and last Saturday I found the ultimate deal, to wit:

I found a T/C Hawken .50 caliber Flintlock with factory rifled barrel and a T. Mansfield .50 Smoothbore barrel for $200. I peeled off the shickels and trotted home to see what I got. I had a tackle box of other goodies in with the deal.

Well, the mint T/C .50 rifled barrel shot great and the smoothbore shot patched roundball fine out to 75 yards with 75 grains of 2F Goex. I built a rifle box to accomodate the Hawken stock and both barrels. Oh, Wot a Country!

Sounds like a great find...what would a .50cal smoothbore be like...if a .54cal is a .28ga, I guess a .50cal would be about like a .32cal...

roundball,

I have a good supply of .50 caliber wads, so I can load shot loads or shoot roundball out of the .50 smoothbore barrel.

I have gotten some nice patterns out to 35 yards with #6 shot loads out of the smooth barrel, 75 grains of 2F Goex and a 1 1/8th ounce charge of shot.

Happy July 4th,

Adam
