Expensive Flowers

Holy Mackeral, another hefty lawsuit. Guy buys flowers for his girl & wife got copy of receipt. Short version, 2 weeks mental anguish and suffering equals, if I remember, 1.5 million lawsuit. These lawsuits must grow on trees. I guess you can just pick a number out of a hat for how much you sue for? Must be more to it than I saw on msn.com. Or somebody looking to retire comfortably. Basically just sounded like he wanted to prove a point that nothing should have been sent to his address, or whatever address they sent the receipt to. I dunno, but just seems like these absurd suing cases are outta control, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

Yes, but I think Shakespeare's idea would be against the law today. Still, it is worth considering, at least when it comes to the ambulance chasers.

I think lawyers in general suffer from the same problem a lot of people in other professions do. The few bad, ambulance chasing, sue for anything lawyers ruin the reputation of the rest of the group.

Kind of sad when you think about it.

As to the lawsuit, it's just stupid.

He's a triple moron.

First, he has an affair while he's divorcing his wife.

Second, he sues the flower shop because they reveal the affair accidentally.

Third, because if he GETS the $1.5 mill, his soon-to-be ex is gonna get all of it from him - and then some!

Rocky, in Maryland he would get to keep the money from the lawsuit and it wouldn't be considered part of the marital estate because it was for personal injury (e.g., mental anguish).

If the couple was already separated, I don't see what the big deal is. There are so many people that are separated and sleeping with other people, that this should be a non-issue in the divorce. In Maryland, they would have had to been separated and living apart to even pursue a divorce, unless one of them had committed adultery, been violent to the other, or deserted the other. To me, this entire thing sounds like sheer stupidity where the divorce attorneys are running up the billable hours.

At the end of the day, it is the few bad attorneys that make it bad for all of us. However, I would take this moron's case and charge him by the hour. At the end of the day, he would probably end up putting my kid through college. Somehow, though, his attorney is probably doing this on a contingency and hoping that he gets 1/3 of 1.5 million dollars. If I were on the jury, this thing would be getting thrown out, and if there was an option to award attorneys fees, I would award them to the florist.
