New Dove Species for Colorado

Finally, Colorado DOW has recognized a new species of dove.
Eurasian Collared-Dove, about 1/3 larger than a Mourning Dove.
Guy where I hunt says they are abundant and don't go south as fast as the others...gonna find out opening day!
Dan

Hey, as I have joined gspsonny on this board, let's get some feedback from other mountain states. I'm not as up on other areas as some of you. Please give us some feedback as to seasons/hunts/game and other rec opportunities in your areas!
Thanks

Cool Dan, so that's what they're called in English!! Had to look it up to see a pic, glad they're open for you also. We have them but call them Collared Dove (Turkentauben). I'm not so sure they're 1/3 larger than a Mourning Dove, but maybe you's are feeding them steroids!! Over here they're about the same size as a Mourning. Anyway, have fun hunting them, they're pretty swift flyers, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

Since one of the classes I teach in the Hunting Course over here here's a little info on them:

II. COLLARED TURTLE DOVE / TURKENTAUBE
-- ORIGINALLY FROM INDIA, THE gKLEINE TAUBEh WAS FIRST SEEN IN BAVARIA IN 1947 AND HAS SINCE SPREAD ALL ACROSS GERMANY. THE TURKENTAUBE LIVES MOSTLY IN CITIES AND PARKS, FLYING TO NEARBY FIELDS TO FEED. IT PREFERS TO NEST IN PEAR TREES.
-- SMALLER THAN THE RING DOVE, ABOUT HALF THE SIZE.
-- OVERALL ASH-BROWNISH GRAY.
-- HAS A PROMINENT BLACK BAND ACROSS THE BACK OF THE NECK BANDED WITH WHITE.
-- HAS A WHITE BAND ACROSS THE END OF THE UNDERSIDE OF ITS TAIL.

I have about a half dozen of these that are staying around my house. I just assumed they were mourning doves, but did wonder about the size of them, because they are considerably bigger. I knew they weren't a pidgeon. Now I know. Thanks for the info Dan and Dom.

By the way Dan, when does your dove season start? I think ours starts on the first. Guess I better be checking that out.

I first thought they were pigeons too, this first year DOW has recognized them as separate. Dom, thanks for the additional info.
Colorado season starts Sep 1. They count in the aggregate
total.
