Ban Ammo to save the Condor!
You guys in California have some messed up legislation if this gets passed
http://www.ussportsmen.org/Read.cfm?ID=2111 Everyone should be a member of The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance. I get their newsletters which helps me stay on top of the events that occur in the U.S. when it comes to anti-hunting and gun-banning movements. Some of the stuff you read is scary and is happening every day in your local offices (right under your noses) Thank God there's organizations like this out there that fight all this BS. Here's some other links from today's newsletter. http://www.ussportsmen.org/Read.cfm?ID=2112 - lots of stuff going on in California http://www.ussportsmen.org/Read1.cfm...programdocs=AH - bill signed to strip IL DNR from managing deer herd

Yeah, in law school I quickly found out that California law is utterly nuts compared to the rest of the nation. I just do not understand why this is.

What, if any, evidence has been presented to back the claim that lead is killing condors or is this just a rounabout way of trying to take another option away from California hunters?? I think that the one thing you have going for you is a level headed governor. When he was first elected I think California was on the brink of disaster if the news reports were correct. No water, no electricity, and there was no way that another hollywood actor was going to fix it. Since then i have not heard much if anything at all. In my eyes no reports from the liberal press means the man is doing a good job. I must admit I dont follow events going on in California that closely but I think he has surprised a few people.

i personally, as some one who has spent too much time reading about condors am tired of the whole thing.. from what i have read, plain and simple this is a bird that is 300 yrs living beyond its extinction, not that i want to see it go, i love ornithology in general, , the species in general is troubled

NOW, just to help out, we can have Arnie ban cars & trucks, that deliver Chinese toys. Some poor condor just flying around looking for lead-bullets, might stop to play with the toxic Fisher-over-priced toys tossed along side the road.
To Kaliphornians, I say DEFECT! Come to the Top-49! You might even get away with speaking english at gas stations and 7-11's.

Let's not even suggest such a thing. Furthermore, that wouldn't be a brave lad, but a stupid lad. Me, I enjoyed seeing the Condors at the Grand Canyon when I visited there a little over 2 years ago, and I want them to be there when my 4 month old daughter is old enough to be able to appreciate them.
Why not exterminate all the whitetails because of all the accidents they cause? Might want to exterminate a couple more species while we are at it. The problem isn't with the Condors, but with moronic politicians. The next thing we are going to have to debate is the requirement that non-toxic shot be used on waterfowl. At first, I am sure that plenty of people thought it was a stupid law, but I have read studies that have been done of lead poisoning on ducks and have even read that some of the ducks autopsied (sp.) came back with lead pellets in their gizzard/gullet which probably isn't a good thing. So, in the end it is more expensive for us to hunt waterfowl, but we can still hunt them. Now, if lead bullets are really outlawed in the Condor range, will it really be that hard to find a non lead bullet that will do the trick (e.g., XLC, X bullet, VLC).

I just hope they make an exception for rimfire ammo. Imagine how much a brick of .22s will cost if they have to start making them with all copper (or other lead-free) bullets?
The Dept. of Fish and Game asked people to start burying the gut piles, but I am not sure how many hunters complied with that request. Then they even gave out ammo and/or coupons for discounts on lead-free ammo. Sometimes, we bring trouble onto ourselves, like the slob shooters who leave trash, appliances and old cars out at every area to shoot in the BLM lands...and wonder why those areas end up closed to recreational shooting? The scientific evidence has been inclusive about the lead posioning problem with condors and other meat-eating birds. However, the voters will tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to nature. |

Hey 8x56,
Nice flag........ not many know the orign of the Bonnie Blue. Fabs, With regards to CA law, you only have to know that it is legal in CA to sue yourself for neglegance, to know CA is totally screwed. Ed

Ed,
Are you serious that you can sue yourself for your own negligence in California? If that is true, that is completely screwed up. Essentially, people just aren't responsible for their own actions then. What the heck is this philosophy used for anyway? Is it so that injured people can get judgments against insurance companies? Last I checked, there was something called health insurance to cover our own negligence.

Fabs,
Thought that might get your attention.... I am an insurance broker. My office staff wrote insurance on a young archetect here in FL. He moved to CA with his turbo, Carerra, wife and young daughter. One day, he decided to pass a slow car on a hill, wham, headon by truck coming in opposite direction. Wife dies, child is injured. He sues himself on behalf of the child, sues himself on behalf of the wife, claiming he was neglegent in the death of his wife and injury to child. Company said this has got to be a joke. Nope, constitutonal attorney in CA said it was perfectly legal under CA law. Company tried to fight it, ended up paying $500K. I just shake my head every time I think about it. But, yes, it is a method to fleese the insurance companies. Ed

Seriously, as California has a long mining history, has any one ever searched out the amount of lead contaminants leeching out
of old mines and tailing's? Dan
