Casting hunting bullets...

A good friend and neighbor stopped by yesterday to give me 50 pounds of "virgin" lead in 5-pound ingots. Ah, it was a timely delivery.

I just got in a several new bullet moulds and the pure lead was needed. I have a REAL 250 grain double cavity .45 conical mould, a .50 Maxi mould and a .54 Maxi mould. It may rain tomorrow, but the haywagon in the tractor shed is a fine place to cast in inclement weather. I will cast enough to get me through till Spring.

Adam;
With the price of lead nowadays, all I can say is "Wow....you gotta great neighbor!" .....All mine give me is zucchini!

I'm curious about that .54 cal Maxi mold....is it the same as the T/C maxiball? If so, where did you find it....I've been looking for that (or a maxihunter) mold for quite some time now.

Thanks......................

Mr. 16 gauge,

The .54 Maxi mould is a T/C mould I got many years ago when I lived near Rochester, NH. It is a single cavity and appears to be made of aluminum.

Dang it! I was hoping you wouldn't say that.....I know that T/C used to sell a mold, but I was hoping it was one of current production
Oh, well....guess I keep looking on Ebay.

There are a lot of superior molds than TC's. You might want ot check out http://bullshop.gunloads.com/ for bullets from his shop.. ridiculous prices ... and as for molds http://www.mountainmolds.com/

Can make a custom mold you of your own design that will improve over the Maxi-ball molds.

Lyman has a 450 grain Plains bullet 548657 at http://www.lymanproducts.com/lymanproducts/index.htm
that might work for you as well. The Maxiball is a great penetrator, but not much on expansion and does a good job, but there are lots of other bullets that will do the job as well or better that you can get your mitts on.

Aloha...
