Is that a crow I hear?

Can't help but "crow" a little, folks. I just received this.

"I've recently been privileged to read … Rocky Raab's novels based on his experiences in Vietnam.

Baggy Zero Four and Mike Five Eight: Air War Over Cambodia are two of the very best Vietnam era works I've ever read. Rocky draws the reader into the world of the Forward Air Controllers (FACS) and brings the sights, sounds, smells, and emotions of Vietnam to life.

I heartily encourage everyone with an interest in the Vietnam War, especially those like me who are too young to clearly remember the war, to pick up copies and expand your knowledge and understanding of this onerous conflict and the men and their families who served there."

Rapier,

Is your avatar the infamous "Coveted Recondo Badge" from the 101st ABN DIV?

Yep,
That is the right pocket badge of the Ft Campbell school, before the remainder of the brigades went across the pond and the school was turned over to the SF. The Campbell school was the origins of the LRPs. That was when the Recondos were pretty much known only to the 101st, but making a name. I went through the school in 67 at Campbell.

"Once an Eagle, always an Eagle!” I went through the school in '73. I think that by '76 DA ruled the patch "unauthorized" and the school died on the vine. Too bad it was a good school.

Steve

PS 4th ID also ran a school at Ft. Carson in the early 70's. A good freind of mine went through that school and rated it highly.

There is always a dick head in the DA that thinks that elite units are a bad thing, cause they ain't one, and want everyone to be the same. Reminds me of the black hat fiasco, stupid is as stupid does.

Course when the ship runs aground and the crap hits the fan, that same dick head goes looking for the folks that can walk the walk and tote the load.

Yep, wear any kind of identifier today and someone will stop you to talk. I was sitting in a lounge with an old fellow on Christmas Eve 1994. He said to me: "You know where I was 50 years ago?" "I was in Bastogne." He was from the Regiments and was assigned to the 101st. He had 4 stars on his wings. We are always an Eagle and always brothers.

my younger Brother went to comm. school at Ft. Devin in Mass. Then it was off for two tours in SE Asia.
Although he was not a member of an elite unit by any means, they would drop him and another guy or so off in Laos for weeks at a time.
Their job was to monitor Charlie, and get the information back to their base. Scary stuff, and zero recognition later. On their best day, they called in a B52 strike, and later counted 600+ bodies.

Nice Avitar, that flag from Texas? ....

My 4 GGF; Madison Rangers, 2nd FL Inf Reg, FL Brigade, ANV 1861-1865. Not all of Picket's units were from Virginia....

As things turn out, if you wore the uniform you were elite. The rest were, well we need not get into what I think.
