Anyone ever smoked squirrel?
I'd be willing to bet GOB has a recipe for me right quick on this one
Going out tree rat hunting this afternoon with my son, as soon as I finish smoking some salmon fillets. Every time I i fire up that smoker, I just want to keep going So I was thinking, why couldn't I smoke a squirrel or two? (if we get lucky) Should I soak them in a brine mix first or just do a rub and start smoking? Hopefully we are successful in the hunt, and when I get back there is a recipe or two. Thanks |

The hardest thing about smoking a tree rat is keeping it lit.

I don't know but I've been told it's hard to swim with the weight of gold. On the other hand I have heard it said it's just as hard with the weight of lead. |

I'm not a smoked meat fan myself. Except for sausages and Ham. This may be a answer for minihntr on the other thread on teal. Teal and Shovelers are not my favorite eating fare. Toooo gamey. Best wishes, Bill |

all thats missing is the drum roll well, didn't get any suirrels, saw a couple but no clear shot. Was a fantastic time though. At one point my son and I were walking a trail slowly, and I saw a squirrel running on the ground. I couldn't get a clear shot and then I didn't see it anymore. I told him to stay put andwatch the area as I walked a little farther ahead and it might show itself to him. I walked about 20 yards and turned around... There he stands, alert and looking for the squirrel. Right behind him on the trail is a doe 15 yards away looking at him. I nearly fell over. I got his attention and motioned for him to look behind him. His eyes about popped out of his head. Closest he has been so far to a live deer. Tried to get my phone out and get a picture but the doe walked off to quick. Would have killed to get that pic. Anyways, we had a great time and a story we always remember. But I'll still look for a smoked squirrel recipe. |

You could also make Jerky out of it. You could also look up a project on meat smoking on Google and might find something. Just a thought. Bill |
