Spare ammo part II
For those of you who carry semiautos, how do you carry spare magazines? Loose in a pocket, or do you use a magazine holder. If you use a magazine holder, what make & model do you use?

Mr. 16 Gauge
I use a leather mag holder from kilpatricks leather works. High quality leather at affordable prices and it matches my holster. I love being color co  rdinated by matching.  I always liked revolvers better for carry but ran into a problem with spare speedloaders. I'm a skinny guy and it was difficult for me to hide them. The flat mags for semi autos work better. The thing I like about revolvers is in "case" of a mis:fire just keep pulling the trigger, one them little boogers is gonna go off. With a semi:auto you have to tap rack and pray. Doesn't help my heart rate any. Best wishes, Bill

Thanks for the reply; I have always just carried spare mags in a pocket, but every now and then when I need change or something I have to pull out the magazine as well....kinda gives away the fact that you are carrying. I am wondering about high capacity mags, such as those for the Browning Hi-power, CZ75, et al......do they leave a noticable bulge on the hip?

Mr. 16 gauge,
I picked up a black, nylon cell phone holder at a yard sale that my Glock M19 15-round mag fits in perfectly. There is a flap that goes over the carrying pocket. On my belt, the nylon holder just looks like I am carrying a cell phone. Adam

My leather guy made me several suede pouches for my magazines. I can carry these in my pocket, or I have various magazine holders that attach to my belt.

I'm one of the people that thinks "5 is Enough."
I carry CCW every day, but never any extra ammo. During 50+ years I've never had to draw or fire my handgun. Everyone can make their own choice, and our opinions may differ. gold40

Simply go to a knife shop, and get a pair of the cordura knife pouches with the velcro flap that cover the knife. These can be worn on the belt, and even if they show, they do not say "GUN", and are assumed to be a buck knife! They keep the mag clean, and are instantly available.
I carry all types of handguns concealed, but as stated above the speed loaders for revolvers are too bulky, and so I rarely carry one with my chief special. This leaves me with five in the snubby, and spare ammo in a pocket, making re-load a bit slow! Even the in-line magazines carry more ammo than a ravolver, and are far quicker to re-load with a spare magazine. Then if you have a high capacity magazine, like the many 17-1 rounds, a spare magazine is not really necessary. I'd say in 99% of the cases wher one has to use a firarm to protect himself, or others, 18 rounds is going to be pleanty! IMO, the best concealed carry pistol is a double action auto with a hammer drop lever and an exposed rounded spur hammer. The chambering is your choice, but I prefere 40 S&W, or 45ACP, though I do carry pistols as small as a little Beretta Tomcat, 32acp, usually as back-up for one of the larger handguns. Even a .22 short is better than a prayer! .................Stay well
