Break Barrels ????
I just started looking at $100 + airguns . I noticed most have these break barrel cocking things. Does the barrel really return to the same position every time to hold Zero on the scope? This all seems unlikely to me ,,, someone tell me different. There must be reasonable success with this system or they wouldn’t make so many different brands with the same system,,, or would they?

I think that they can be fairly accurate but the main reason, I think , they were made was because they can allow quick reloading mixed with high power (compared to pump pneumatic or lever/pump spring action). At 25 yards I can hit blackbirds with almost every shot with my break action .177.

Good to hear that from you. I picked up a BSA (Lightning) XL(Tachtical) in .22. I wanted to get something I could get parts for at some time in the future. It was a lot of money but what the hell I deserve it.

Just an update on that BSA. The accuracy is great. I tested the power today. The test is a bit relative. I used these really hard green oranges off of my tree and lined then up 3 deep.
If I pump my .177 Crosman 10 times it will penetrate 1 green orange come out the other side and make it half way through the 2nd orange with a pellet. When I shoot the new BSA in 22 cal it will clear 2 green oranges and half way through the 3rd. I repeated this test a few times with repeating results. ( I know not very scientific but relative). A .22 is only .043 larger than a .177 but the hole looks completely different. The .177 hole was hard to find on the skin. The .22 hole was easy to find on the way in and a good chunk on the way out. I think this satisfies me to give it a try on small yard game.

So I load up Saturday for some coyote hunting and got nothing. The bright spot is I got 2 pigeons off the roof tonight ! No matter how you stack it I got more kills with the pellet rifles than with anything else. The new BSA Tactical is extremely accurate (and silent)

 Didn't reply earlier as I had not noticed the post but a good quality break barrel is very ....................... very accurate. I have an old BSA Meteor Std .177 and a Feinwerbau Model 127 in .22. Had the model 127 since 1979 when I brought it new and have no idea how many kills it has far too many to remember. Used to shoot a couple of tins of pellets a week back then on targets and pests. Hmm need to break it out for some practice.

Yes, I am still very happy with the BSA. It is too easy to shoot the pigeons off the roof so I have moved to headshots. Still getting 75%

Sorry to tell you this but the break barrel BSA's are made in Spain I think you'll find. The pre charged pnuematics are still made in Birmingham in the old Stocking shop of what was BSA's plant. BSA is now BSA Guns Ltd and a tiny shadow of it's former self after the asset strippers had finished with it.
One day I want to find a nice original RB2 Airsporter, the full stocked version to compliment the CF2 Stutzen I have and was my first full bore rifle. They still make a version of the full stock but it's very clunky and not a patch on the original as I saw one at the club range a while back.

Well that's what I heard but I have not looked at the new ones. perhaps I should take a look.
Hmmm I have a fairly new catalogue here somewhere that a friend gave me on BSA. Wonder where I put it?

over a period of time, if not maintained, break-barrels ,may develop 'droop' from the tension of the latching device, too.
beeman used to offer the service of installing a scope while figuring in the 'droop' factor. i've had good luck with the break-barrel style springers, so far... some day, maybe i'll pick up a good PCP...
