Rate of twist
I am eye-balling a Savage 10 in .243 because it is the cheapest on the rack ($310) it's the package deal (yes I will toss the cheap 'free' scope). But the Savage listing for the 22"bbl is a rate of 1 in 9.25 so could I use 90rain or higher ammo, or is this a light grain twist?
I am months away from purchase, still got bills to settle from the move.ect.ect............but I am going cheap. The .308 cost about $80 more, but I think .243 would work well here in Oklahoma........comment please

That's the standard factory twist for a 243. You'll be able to use any factory load on the market- including any of the 100 grain bullets. 95's or 100's are what you want to use for deer.

The 9.25 twist should handle the heavest .243 bullets. If you loose accuracy it will be with the very lite varment bullets.

You're good for nearly any load. It's hard to over stabilize a bullet. A very light frangible bullet may blow up if pushed too hard esp from a fast twist barrel but that would take more that 1 in 9.5 TR.
BTW, if you handload try the 85 gr Barnes TSX. These solid copper bullets get nearly 100% wight retention. They will give you penetration and expansion like nothing else I'm aware of. Since they are relatively light the velocity will be up too. Make your 243 shoot like it's on steroids. |

JOn the rate of twist should be fine.
I think thats the same twist my savage 100 .243 has and it's done good with bullets from 70gr-100gr btw check your PM's! |

I am a new guy to the web. Just bought a Mossberg SSI-one in 22-250. I have tried three different factory loads and they all shoot pretty well. Does any one have any experience with this rifle. Can you give me some good information on what factory loads work best. Thanks

Karl, unfortunately there is no magic answer to your question. Just like some people like broccoli and some people don't, individual rifles have their own preferences.
In other words, to find out which factory load your rifle likes best, you have to try each one. And last but not least, welcome to HuntChat!

The right Ammo
Jack,
Thanks for the response and welcome! I fear that you are right with your comment. The good news is that several types of ammo shoot very well at 100 yds. I am having a "trigger job" done on my rifle and will test more ammo next week at 200 and 300 yds. Karl |
