That is why I think all cars should be built with toximeters in them. I was at a client's salon the other day doing her bookkeeping, and I overheard a story where somebody had been arrested for DUI. In one circle of friends, they cannot believe that anybody drinks and drives anymore because it is so stupid. In another circle of friends, they don't think it is a bad idea to drink and drive and have multiple DUI's. I should introduce the two circles, but that probably wouldn't be good.

In more ways than one. My wife(an emergency room nurse) said the highest she ever saw a BAC was a 630 . The guy actually walked(maybe crawled?) into the emergency room too. He was, shall we say, just a little drunk. She also told me they saw this individual fairly often and regularly saw his BACs in the high 400's all the time. Ah, my wife traveled in the elite circles werking in that ER. Went to court when she had to testify a few times. She knew(professionally) all the guys wearing the state issued bling waitng for their hearings. Embarrassed the he11 outta me

I agree 100% fabs-I think all cars should have a "blow before you go"device in them!!My pickup is another story though,how would I uphold the age old tradition of "checking the crops"?

"All things in moderation"is the key.I think gettin drunk and driving is sheer stupidity.I don't however think that cruisin the back trails at 10 mph sippin an ale and checkin crops is a bad thing.Course I live a LONG way from the closest civilization...

Many uears back, when I was still living in Nevada working for the National Wather Service in Winnemucca, I had a fellow come into the office during the graveyard shift, so darn drunk he could hardly walk. Now the weather was totally crappy with fog and the weather term used in the hourly reports was W0X0F. which mean ceiling zero due to total obscuration with zero visibilty in fog. The guy wants a weather briefing to Reno Nevada. Reno is also W0X0F as it Lovelock, the only other reporting station between WMC and RNO. Occifially, I cannot tell him he cannot take off even if the field is closed and as WMC is an uncontrolled airport, it technically can't be closed. Well, I brief him and strongly advise that he wait for the wather to clear later that day. he goes out, gets in gthe plane, takes off and disappears into the worst conditions possible, literally never to be heard from again until roughly ten years later when the wreckage of his plane was found on Mount Rode west of Reno a few hundred yards off the Mount Rose highway. I still to this day can't believe that considering the weather conditions, snow, fog and heavy icing that he made it past Reno only to end up smashed against a mountain.
After he took off, I filed a report of the briefing and attached copies of the weather data as strictly a CYA thing. I still feel bad about the fact that I just could not convince him to stay on the ground. As drunk as he was, I'm surprised he did not crash on take off.
In 33 years of doing the weather thing, 20 of which involved briefing pilots of weather conditions, he is only one of two who refused to listen when I suggested they wait for better weather. The other survived only to return to WMC and tell me he should have listened. I always sweated blood every time I gave a briefing into marginal conditions and that drunk made my ulcers hurt something bad.

The first human ability that is influenced by alcohol is judgment. Motor reflexes are further down the list. So, most people that have been drinking take more risks than if they hadn't had a single thing to drink.

Me, I stay away from the stuff for the most part, I don't look down on those that drink unless they are a menace to society, and I truly believe in moderation in everything I do and believe others should too.
