Did you load the shell? Little more info on the load data please. If I ever draw for a SD elk tag, I'm planning on buying a 30-06 or 270. Haven't decided which yet. Maybe I'll try it with the .243. Its the largest rifle I own.

load for 243
no i didn't load, we bought shells from sportsman warehouse i forget the brand. i'll look for the box today... but it was a 85 grain bullet solid copper kinda like a hollow point. oh wait i found it. it's made by federal. federal premium 243 win. 85 grain triple shock p243k. hope this helps out..and good luck
