Scope for Slug Gun, Zeiss Conquest

I've read quite a bit on the Zeiss Conquest, but most hunters & huntresses put them on a rifle. Most seem satisfied and say they are holding up well.

I can't seem to find anybody that puts them on a slug gun. Maybe I'm out in left field, but I plan to put one (a 3-9x40) on a Rem 870 w/cantilever mount.

Anyway, if anyone has one on a slugger or knows someone who does, any comments welcome. Will it hold up? Is there a better option? Waidmannsheil, Dom.

I youse a standard 3x9x 32 bushnell on my 870 leapold makes a nice 2x7 for shot guns.
The things about standered scopes are the eye releaf is less then shot gun scopes just keep it in mind or you will get scope cracked

Oh Yeah

What wrenchman said. Unless it has good eye relief use a shotgun scope. I used a Leupold VXII 1x4 on my 870 and 11-87. 4x is good enough for any slug gun. Most you will shoot is probably gonna be a couple hundred yards. If you are walking to the stand keep the darn scope on it's lowest power too. That seems to be the time you see those big'uns. I always used the old weaver V1.5x4.5 on my old 1100 slug gun. Shot more than 100 with it. 2x7 is as powerful as I would go myself

Good points, thanks Wrenchman and Skeet. That model Conquest has 3.5" eye relief so it will be fine. The barrel and scope are in the states waiting for me to put together next year, so unless something 'better' comes along I'll go this route.

Dom,

Zeiss makes a 3-9 Conquest for the shotgun. Parallax is set at 50yds. Eye relief is @ 4" vs the 3.5".

Varmintsniper, you're exactly right, just checked it out on SWFA, thanks for the info. In fact, the Conquest line just keeps growing and growing!! I was surprised at how many models there are, they got some pretty nice looking scopes. But, price seems to be jumping a tad also, guess like everything else, you get what you pay for most times with good glass.

Dom,

Have you looked at the other models such as the 1.8-5 power? Those have 4" of eye relief and also has the parallax set at 50yds. Also they have the 2.5-8 with 4" eye relief and parallax set at 50yds.

I thought about putting one of these on my shotgun for next year. 2.5-8 or 3-9.

I also thought about putting a 2.5-8 on my Rem 504.

If you're looking for good prices on the Zeiss, check out cameralandny.com

Wrenchman, we use slugs over here, but limited to daytime drive hunts, and mostly in combination weapons, which are smoothbores and very close shooting.

This setup is for Michigan, I've got a Win 1300, rifled barrel, scoped already there, but picked up the 870 rifle cantilever barrel on sale so will get that one set up next year when I visit.

VS, that 1.8-5 sounds very interesting. I've checked them all now, along with several others like opticsplanet, bear basin, & opticzone, swfa, etc, tks, Dom.
