Talking Perchin Fever!

I got the hankerin to do some perchin! Weather is start ta get warm durin the day and I think I might just be able ta find time ta crawl down to the river. What rig do you use for perch?

Me I prefere mY little Johnnie walker 3' rod, 6lb cajun red cast line, a shakespeare $4 reel I picked up nigh on 10 years ago, a snap swivel, and a #6 long shank bronze aberdeen cricket hook from eagle claw. Use about a quarter inch hunk o worm. Bobber from the bank, straight line it from the dock. Ain't nuttin better. I think the whole rig, hooks, swivels, and new line included set me back right around $10 way back when.

GOB,
Just had some fried perch last week, fresh caught.

Justwannano ... two words .. ice auger!

A buddy and myself hiked into a reservoir for some icefishing and after trying a few different locations found our little stripped buddies in mass.

Our limit out here is 20/person. Once we located them we couldn't keep 2 lines in the water. We could stand over the hole and watch them hit the jig on the drop. About 3 1/2 hrs of catch and release/sorting for size to get a good limit each of 8-10". Sure had fun.

Got about one more meal then I'll have to wait for soft water ice has gotten marginal around the edges of the lakes.

Good fishing, GOB.

Hey Guys

Stop camplaining, it was -25° this morning and a -47° chill factor.

GOB, I see you use only expensive high tech equipment also.

I catch more fish with run of the mill tackle than I do with all the specialized stuff. As I have said in other posts, some times a feller has to stop and think whether they make all those lures for the fish or the fisherman.

Best wishes, Bill

Well lets see. It is 66F here today, but this weekend it is supposed to warm up to the mid 70s. I would say I hate ta hear you have so much ice, but I don't live up north for alot of reasons, not the least of which are those things you call snow and ice. Ice should be in my glass, the ice chest, or the ice box.

Yep I have by far caught more and better fish on perchin gear than just about everything else. The exception being large catfish that I use set lines for. Last time I was out perchin off a dock in a state park I caught a 5 and a half pound bass on that #6 hook with a quarter inch of worm. I also caught a half dozen or so 3/4 to 1 pound perch. Not to mention dozens of perch ranging from the size of a minnow to the size of my hand. And the three largemouth bass I caught that were not quite as big as most fishing lures. Those three went back into the water in record time

Justwanna,

Ask GOB what "deep south texas" is like in July and August!!

I'm waiting for the ice to melt here in the foothills, I have to travel vertically to get to safe ice anymore and then its only trout.

Yeo now that IS true. We do hang around 115F average (with bursts of up to 123F) in august. But at least there ain't no wind and the humidity is high when it happens

Still I wouldn't trade my month of killer heat for even two days of frozen nothin.
