Getting the lead out.....

Does anyone have a good system for removing lead from muzzleloader bores?

I just used Wipe Away on my muzzleloader bores and was surprised to see how much lead residue the bores had. My usual hot soapy water cleaning removes BP residue, but apparently not the lead from shooting maxis.

I have plenty of modern rifle bore cleaners on hand and can use any of them after the water cleanup on the front loaders. Any suggestions?

Adam

These are other good products

I use a combination of products that seem to work on my muzzleloaders. I start by cleaning in the usual way with hot soapy water, hot water and dry patches, A snug fitting bruch with J.B. Bore Cleaner works well followed by Shooters Choice on patches. The next option is to use Remington Bore Cleaner on a patch wrapped around a brush followed by Shooters Choice on patches. Finally, I use Lead Wiping Cloth patches on a brush, more Shooters Choice on patches, dry patches and an oil patch. Take care...

avalanche,

Welcome to this Forum; I see this is your first post.

I use hot, soapy water and it does clean out the black powder residue. The lead from maxis seems to get "ironed" into the bore and Wipe Away seems to remove the lead.

Again, welcome to this site.

I took the Chicken way out and used an Outers Foul Out System. Then I started shooting Sabots. I know, Sacrilege. Curses and may the "Hunting Gods never smile down upon me with favor again".

But I just love seeing those small groups I can shoot that way. By the way I use Irons only.

I don't know how effective it would be, but could you use something like the Lewis lead remover system?

The only lead I shoot is patched balls.

Sorry I can't help.

Best wishes, Bill
