Infant put in microwave

I just listened to a video feed where a man put his 2 month old daughter in a microwave for several seconds. The infant suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns and had to have an ear amputated. The jury gave the guy 25 years in prison, but he can get out after 1/2 of that (i.e., 12 1/2 years) on good behavior. The defense attorney was arguing for probation so that the guy could receive therapy for his mental illness. Honestly, if I was on the jury the only thing I would want to know is what the quickest way of getting the man executed was.

Angry

Executed is right! What kind of insane, phsycomaniac, bugger would do that to a child? You know what we need to STOP having a innocnet by reason of insanity plea and go to a GUILTY by reason of insanity for cases like this.

I have an idea. Put him in a microwave everyday for that 25 year sentance and let him relive it daily.

GOB,

This thing bothered me so much that I even told my wife and mother about it today. I also told them that the guy should be microwaved to death. Honestly, I think this "cruel and unusual" punishment part of the Constitution is being interpreted too strictly. What is wrong with punishing somebody in the same manner that they hurt somebody else. If you steal money from somebody, you have to pay back the exact amount you stole and there is no bankruptcy allowed to get rid of it. If you kill somebody on purpose, you get to die the exact same way. If you maim somebody on purpose, you get maimed the exact same way. Our penal system really has me pissed off.

I have been saying the EXACT thing for years.Let the punishment fit the crime.
Sending these idiots to the fitness hideaway for a while does nothing to curb their tendencies.

Every time I think about this, it burns me up.

The poor 2 month old girl suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns and had to have an ear amputated. If the father were subjected to the same thing, maybe it would make the next father think twice before harming his child.

When I was talking to my mother about this, we came to the conclusion that the people with the mental illnesses 200 years ago that did something like this were just outright killed. Sometimes, you have to wonder about today's civilized society. You have to wonder if our civility leads to all of the atrocities that people do because they know they will get 12.5 years in prison IF they get caught for putting a child in a microwave.

Mr. Roman,

If I recall your past posts correctly, you don't do a lot of criminal defense work; mostly taxes and financial/business matters. If you get bored and need a legal change of pace, it appears it would be good to have you working for a DA or the U.S. Attorney's Office. Only problem would be that such a move, at least for a DA, would probably involve a substantial pay cut.

Ultimately, none of my business; just a thought.

Aim to Maim,

There is no way in hell I would work for the DA's office or the US Attorney's office. It is hard enough not to jump across the bench and strangle the Judge when he/she lets my clients off on the limited amount of criminal work I do and he/she is actually doing what I am asking him/her to do. Could you imagine if I were on the other side and the Judges were letting criminal after criminal off with light sentences? I would go insane.

There is one older Judge in my jurisdiction that I hate to go in front of, and that is because he rarely cuts anybody any slack. He doesn't give probation before judgment on traffic matters unless there is a really good reason. Meanwhile, the other Judges give out PBJ's like they are candy.

About the only way I could get involved in the criminal arena to an extent greater than what I do right now, would be to join the FBI, at which point my wife would kill me, or to become a Judge myself. I haven't yet ruled out the Judgeship, but only time will tell with that one. Maybe, just maybe, ten years down the road when I am 46ish, I'll try it, but who knows.

fabs

Why wait until you are 46ish? The courts could use some good conservative judges and by the time you're 46 you could have your own TV show

I think the TV Courts are one thing that is wrong with this country. I cannot stand to watch Judge Judy or any of those other idiots. I cannot believe what she makes in a year for what she does. She makes more than the Supreme Court Justices and she hears cases that deal with some of the stupidest things. By the way, if you think the people on that show are idiots, I can assure you that they are about what I see in small claims, rent court, and claims less than $10,000. However, the Judges are nowhere near as theatrical as Judge Judy or the other TV Judges.

As another example, look at the OJ trial. That thing turned out to be a circus, and that just isn't what a Courtroom is supposed to be like.

I believe somewheres...in this book they called...the BIBLE...it says...eye fer an eye..tooth fer a tooth.
I also believe that our foundin fathers incorporated the Bible into the laws of our country, wether us today want to admit it er not.

I say...they oughta nuke that ********.
While i'm here, I might as well rant on the terms that loosely describe a "nutjob" these days. People aint as nuts as they say they are, only when it's convienient to them.

Welfare, etc. helps to keep those people alive too. Instead of the hard working, smart people being the ones that survive and breed, we have the other end of the spectrum breeding like rabbits.

With that said, it is tough to see children go hungry and unclothed just because their parents are stupid and lazy.
