I just don't think people understand the threat that wildlife can pose. I've seen two rather large foxes in our area, and several raccoons at night. When my wife was letting our one year daughter walk a ways away from her, she couldn't understand why I had an issue with it until I told her about the foxes and the raccoons and asked her if she wanted our one year old to be bitten, and possibly carried off by one of them. She doesn't let her get very far away anymore.
God, I have had nightmares of a fox/coyote snatching my daughter and taking her away. Those damn dreams always wake me up. Sad thing is we are right on the edge where the city meets the country.

this has been going on out there for ages
It must be at least 25 years ago that the first incident like this happened in the hills above Los Angeles. That time the child was not as fortunate, it was killed. Seems like there were 2 children lost.
Those animal welfare idiots out there will never learn. Take away the ability to control (traps) the coyotes and cougar you are going to have problems. Until there anti trap BS is over turned it will only get worse. |

While I was visiting my in-laws last weekend, there was something on CNN about a cougar that was "loose" in a neighborhood. They were showing shots of the neighborhood from a helicopter while police and animal control looked for it. Never did get to see the cougar. What was hilarious was the use of the term "loose", as if this animal had gotten out from a zoo. What they should have said is that there is a cougar hunting for kids and small pets in the neighborhood.

This is my neck of the woods.... err... city.
The other couple of incidents were actually in my town (Chino Hills). Around here, people look at you as if your Michael Vick if they know you hunt coyotes. Its amazing how many times coyotes will come into neighborhoods and attack household pets. As a vet, I spend most springs sewing up 2-3 dogs every year. There are many cats that just up and disappear this time of year. |

I'm not a big fan of cats either.
My sister and her boyfriend have three cats, and her boyfriend yaps about how any of their cats could give a dog a run for its money, including my 105 pound yellow lab Nitro. I honestly have to laugh, or I would cry.
