Getting ready for the October muzzleloader deer season.

Well, the garden is in and the hay has been cut, baled and is in the barn.. It is time to get in shape for the PA October muzzleloader season that runs the 18th to the 25th. "Any Muzzleloader" is legal in October and it is "Flintlocks Only" in the after-Christmas ML season.

I have several flinters and a few caplocks that are my favorites to carry when woods loafing hereabouts. My go-to Hawken is a .54 flintlock that shoots very well. I acquired two of those archery deer targets that stand up well to roundballs. I practice a few times a week and like the animal targets much better than paper bullseye targets. I move the deer "animals" around the backyard hedgerow occasionally to vary my practice sessions. I also practice using my speed loaders and working out of my possibles bag as I walk down the trails.

Who else is gearing up for the October season?

Adam

Catfish,

LOL. If we had more deer, they would have something to worry about. Actually, I like hearing the muskets roar and sniffing the sulfur smoke. I saw "Last of the Mohicans" again yesterday and then just had to go burn some powder and launch roundball.

I will be out again this October for our month long MZ season.. it is an any 'muzzleloader' and I only have an inline... but it is still a change of pace...

One day I plan to get a flinter and really challenge myself...
