Garmin converter

I own a Garmin Legend and used to connect to my computer to download GPS waypoints for geocaching and my topo software.

I bought a new computer and it no longer has serial ports!!

So I bought a converter (Garmin) $60, to reestablish the link and now the drivers only go to Windows XP on the install program. I was wondering if any of you folks have dealt with this yet.

I've sent an email to Garmin, they'll get back to me within 3 days!

Sure glad I've got the cutting edge tech so I can be put on hold for 3 days.

I guess I'll save the receipt and return it if they say that they haven't caught up to 2008 yet or that I'll need to buy one of their new units which is compatible.

Any recommendations will be gladly accepted, I'm heading out camping Thursday AM.

Thanks, Mil Dot

Did you look on the garmin site to see if they had drivers for vista? (I'm guessing that is what you need)

I haven't tried to set up my serial to usb cable for mine... since I had most of my stuff on my old computer...

Hopefully it will work for you...

The only good thing I have to say is that Garmin's customer support is pretty good. I had an Edge 305 that caused me fits, but they replaced it once and were pretty good about getting back to me about my questions/issues. Finally gave up on it and bought the Edge 705 and have been problem free with that thing for 3 months now. Knock on wood.

Isn't technology great. If you upgrade one single electronic device, it throws off the symbiosis of everything completely.

Thanks for the input guys, sorry I sounded a little irritated, it's been one of those months'. Daughter came in and the monitor died, few months back cpu so it's been one of those reinstall, hookup, transfer, download updates for compatibility, new cords periods of life that is just down right inconvenient. The Garmin thing is just one more PITA item on the list. I imagine they ought to have something available that I just haven't found yet.

Just busy trying to get stuff laid out for camping & geocaching and was hoping to do a point and click rather than manual enter on the gps.
