500 NE double gun

Today I had the opportunity to buy a really nice rifle. If I was gonna hunt Africa I would have bought it. Rifle was a Krieghoff SXS 500 NE rifle. Absolutely gorgeous rifle too. Engraved in the Germanic style. Everything looked really good. No cracks in the stock. Nothig. About 99% too. Guy wanted 6000 bucks for it. He had a couple boxes of British ammo and 80 rounds of new boxer primed brass made in Australia. Dies and some soft point and solid bullets with it too. That woulda broke the budget though. It would have made me HAVE to go to Africa...which would have done my gun budget in for certain.. Don't know what a trip to Africa for dangerous game is...but I probably can't afford it. And the gun of course

I can understand how you feel with your hands on a fabulous rifle like that. I really like SXS guns but alas all I have are shotguns and a drilling.

Find a picture of that or a similar gun and show it here.

Have always thought SxS rifles were neat. Had no money raising family for some years so never looked for one. Got older and started, what I really wanted was a.303, 30-30, 30-40 or 45-70. My only desire ro hunt Africa is birds. Have been giving some of my deer rifles away the last few years to my daugter, son and grandsons. But I broke down and bought a Remington (BiKaal, Russian) 45-70. Didn't make change in budget, you shold be able to find knew 825 to 900. This gun is made for one to play with, right barrel is permently affixed. Left one has adjustments at the muzzle via 2 set screws and about 8.5"s from muzzle yhere is a cogged wheel running parrrell to the bbls. Know Remington does not even mention it in the instructions. Already shoot a no. of other 45-70s so have all the makings. My goal is to get two bullets to strike with in 3" at 75 yds. If not I have another single shot with a spare shell holder being the second bbl. Hope to start on project next week.
