Women On Target shoot last Saturday.
Last Saturday I ran the muzzleloader shooting bench at my nearby gun club. We had 33 women sign up for the all day event where they shot trap, .22 rifles, .22 pistols, archery and muzzleloaders.
I had a .50 Hawken flintlock, a .50 Hawken caplock, and a .50 T/C Inline on the firing line. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the most popular arm was the flintlock. We did lots of shooting and I went through several flints keeping the flinter in operation. The women came to each station in groups of five or six persons for a 40 minute orientation. After an introduction to loading and firing a muzzleloader, each woman loaded and fired like a grenadier. Several women said they were going to go buy a flinter and some joined the gun club that day. The bottom line is all are voters as well as shooters and we did advise them to vote on November 4, 2008. Who else is working on our future? Adam

While I am not a muzzleloader (yet) I admire you taking time out of your day to get some new shooters interested in a little-known aspect of the sport. Most folks don't think of muzzleloaders when they think of hunters or shooters. It's nice to know they can learn a little about it. And anyone who doesn't think women can shoot never watched my Grandma at the Isaac Walton League trap and skeet range

Tater,
WOT is an annual event and each year we have more women sign up. Many had not fired a gun before last Saturday. Some people who dislike guns do not usually dislike old guns. Last August we had 147 kids sign up for the Youth Field Day. All were accompanied by a parent or guardian and I worked black powder that day as well. Adam
