Old M-27 S&w.

A 6-inch M27 crossed my path and came home with me yesterday. I like old Smiths and this gem is 99%+ with the box and 1982 sales invoice. The former owner had to go to assisted living and guns are verboten there.

The M-27 is the polished version of the M-28 Highway Patrolman. I have both as the 4-inch M-28 was my police duty gun in 1971. The M-27 is a handful of quality one does not find today. I will carry this gun afield on the farm stoked with my Lyman 158 or 168 grain SWC cast bullets.

I just want to live long enough to wear out some of my favorite guns on establishment. Cast bullets do not wear as hard as jacketed slugs which should give me more time shooting.

Adam

Adam, you will live to be a very old man if you wear out a 27 or 28 before you go!
My first centerfire handgun was a 6" 28 that I still have. Bought it new around '79 or '80. They still had recessed cylinders and pinned barrels then.
I have no idea how many rounds I have fired through that 28- a lot! The only sign of wear is a bit of holster wear.

If you make it, I would like to have the dollars you shot up in ammo. I always wanted an airplane.

Model 27

I have Model 27s with 5, 6 and 8 3/8 inch barrels. All are pinned and recessed and in mint condition. They are classic handguns. All the best...

I have one that is actually a pre Model 27, a 5 screw. Bought it used in the early 60s for $75 with an El Paso holster. Still going strong after all these years. My 1st issue as a Traffic Officer in the early 60s was a Model 28 4". Oh yes my pre 27 has a 5" bbl. Great handguns, you will enjoy it.
