help with big mistake
I just spend several hours very carefully making up some ammo. I made the first batch with 4064 then put the can away. This is a one pound can and it's new and full.(I combined what was left of the previous can of 4064 into it so it's right up to the top. Then I took out a container of H4350 and filled my powder dispenser using the funnel. I then realized I had some 4064 left in my trickler so I took the can of 4064 out and took the funnel off my dispenser. Nothing fell out so I put the funnel into the can of 4064 and as i got ready to pour the remaining powder from my trickler into the can I realized there must have been a blockage in my funnel and it still had small amount of H4350 in it. As I took the funnel out of the can a small amount of H4350 dropped out into the can of 4064. Question is my new can of 4064 contaminated or is it still usable? I estimate no more than 25 grains (probably less) fell into the can.

I didn't see it so I don't know what really happened. It should be OK if it was infact that small of an ammount.
Can you shop-vac it off the top with a small hose? Should you shake it up to dispurse that small amount evenly in the rest of the powder? I find that gunpowder makes an excellent fertalizer. My trees don't care what brand or unknown mixture. LOL ![]()

If the can hasn't been shaken up, I'd carefully pour out a hundred grains or so of powder from the can in an attempt to get most or all the 4350 removed.
If it has been mixed in, I think the safest course of action would be to dispose of it and chalk it up to a lesson well learned.

Thank you so much for your reply. I think this is a great website made up of great people.
Hopefully I'll be able to post a helpful reply to someone in the future. |

You should be safe useing the powder as 4064 is alot faster than 4350. If you load at the 4064 loading and get a big dose of 4350 in the case it would be lower presure and slower than the 4064. If you had dropped 4064 into 4350 and loaded it to the 4350 level then you could have went over presure and it could have gotten dangerious.
Just for an example, you can load 67.9 gr`s. of 4064 into a 300 H&H with a 110 gr. bullet, and can load 78.1 gr. into that same load with 4350. You may lose alittle accuracy, but it shouldn`t be dangerious.

technically i think catfish is correct, but as a matter of general principle I would go along with Rocky's suggestion.
I had something similar happen to me when i first started into reloading. I learned after that, whenever I switch powders, I make a _very_ complete inspection of my powder dispenser. |
