anyone use them on deer yet. my 2506 has been running 115 vlds into papaer latly with great results. and also a badger. with great one shot kill results.

I have taken three whitetails with Berger VLD bullets. One was with the 168 gr VLD from a 7mm WSM at 315 yds and the other two at about 125 yds with the 155 VLD from a 308.

Each time the performance was superb. I continue to load VLD's.

The gun writer John Barsness calls the VLD the fastest killing deer bullet.

ill get around to testin the bullet on mule deer, maybe this year, for now the 115vld is my all around long range varmit load.

I've only killed one deer with the 6.5 140VLD. It was at 1100 yards, one shot through the lungs and it was dead. There was about 800lbs of energy, I'm not sure about the impact velocity off the top of my head. The bullet expanded enough (obviously) but the exit hole was not dramatic by any means. I'm not sure that it's a fair test but if it worked that far away, I'm sure they will work at normal ranges.

I've shot quite a few groundhogs with them from 350 to 800 yards. They make an awesome sound when they hit and you can usually see through the hog! Needless to say, I'm going to keep shooting them. Way, way, way better than the 140MK.

I know that the AMAX works beautifully as well, but if the Bergers are shooting well for you I wouldn't worry one bit.

grrrrrrrrrrrr please dont talk about the 6.5 284. i realy want to fling 140 vlds long range.

i talk to people around here and they just cant seem to grasp that the 140 at 2800 shoots flatter than theyre 338s and 300win. they dont under stand the .640bc is like putn the bullet on rails to the target.

it took me about 100 rds on paper to find the supersweat spot in my 2506 with the 115vld.

ive takn deer with the 110 acubond with great results, have you used or looked into them.

I've never tried any of the accubonds out of any of my guns, so I couldn't comment on them.

I've used Accubonds (160 grain/.280) on three or four African safaris with outstanding results, even on large plains game and Crocodile. Red Stag, Fallow Deer, Mouflon and Aoudad Sheep and Whitetails. Excellent performance as well.

Evan03, I've always hunted from the time I was a child. Now I just do what I love as often as possible. It's what I do for a living.

Post the berger site for those interested in their bullets. I've known a number of guys who reload and speak very highly of them.

ive been useing the 115berger vld on coyote alot lately from close to long range and am liking what i see. its pretty much all i push through the 2506 anymore

I've been using Accubonds lately on whitetails, and the group of guys I hunt with use the Accubonds, too. So far, we've had about 8-10 deer taken with the Accubonds, and I'm really impressed. We haven't recovered an Accubond yet - all exited.
We're using 110's in the 25-06, 130's in the 270 Win, and 140's in the 7mm-08 and the 7x57.
The Accubond seems as accurate as the Ballistic Tip was. Penetration is more like the Partition - the best of both worlds, IMO.

i agree completly. ive taken a few deer with acubonds 110s out of my 25. i havent recoverd a bullet and the deer was dead right there.

kinda crazy to think this thread is something like 3 years old and now the vld is a tested and like big game bullet and is even advertised as such now days. crazy how times change but stay the same.

hmmmmmm the only thing that stays the same is everything changes.

i have box full of 110 accubonds i loaded a few years ago. after seing how well the work on deer i tucked the box away for deer only kinda outings. i used the berger vlds and 115 balistic tip for all around shooting and varmiting. i dont feel either of these bullets is as tough as the accubond and both shed theyre jackets and pretty much disenegrate. while i have never recoverd a accubond from a deer or dog.

I just picked up a couple of boxes of Federal premium .280 with 140 grain Barnes TSX. Going to try them on Antelope next month. 150s are the lightest bullet I've tried in the .280 but I hear good things about them. I've got to start reloading and try Berger bullets. They come highly recommended.

the triple shocks most likly will be able to get to shoot tight groups much easier then the vlds.

when ventureing into vlds i was told itl take alot of load dp to be happy with them they werent kidding 5 powders fiddling with seating depth and powder chargers of all 5 powders and im a few hundred into paper and now happy with a list small list of powders and loads that shoot very well.
and these arent book loads i contacted berger direct for help and was givn some awesome info from them and thats what got me to shooting vlds into tight groups.

ive found triple shocks shoot sugested barnses book loads very well. but theyre bc numbers pretty much well leaves alot to desire for longer then 300yd bullet

just reread and holy chit balls i cant afford triple shocks in factory ammo thats like 80 dollars worth of pre loaded tsx"s
