S&W and Taurus lightweights
I haven't heard anything pro or con on the titanium or other lightweight revolvers. I have heard that a "Test Report" gave S&W miserable marks but that is nothing new for that rag.
Let me have information on anything you may have heard that includes real experience! |

I may have read the same report if it was a few years back. I did read a review on the PD 329 that gave it good reviews. I did buy one of them and have a couple 100`s rounds of full house loads down the tube with no problems. Real fun gun to shoot. Just imagine shoot .44 mag. ammo in a lite .38 sp. Not for those that don't care for recoil.

S&W and Taurus lightweights
Catfish, Thanks for the info. A local man of the cloth wants a "light" 44 mag to carry in the woods. Since he walks in grizzly country, he wants something that could count if he had to use it. Another local had a PD329 and traded it back in before he shot the first box through it; and he was used to shooting 44 Mag.
I told the preacher he would certainly learn to like recoil if he shot the gun much. He said he didn't intend to shoot it after he shot it enough to learn to control it. I don't know what the life on a PD329 would be if a person shot it a lot. |

Lightweight guns
A friend here has one of the lightweight 44 Specials that Smith made(makes??) He isn't one of those afraid of recoiul but he gave it to me to trake to a gun show and sell. I shot it a few times and the recoil with the same loads is worse than my Charter Arms Target Bulldog. And it ain't no kitty cat. It is also a bigger gun and weighs less. Also he didn't clean it up as well as it coulda been. Discolors a bit..or so I thought. BUT so does Stainless

Thanks for the input. I will pass it on. The guy does seem intent on finding out for himself about untolerable recoil.

Larry what Skeet said is very true. There are some that think they don`t mind recoil untill they feel it. I was almost scared to buy one from what all of the big bore shooters at the club were telling me. Most of the ones that shoot a PD 329 only fired 1 round. There are only a very few nuts that will fire a cylinder full. Get him a 629 and tell him to shoot it. I can only imagen what it would be like to stand face to face with a bear knowing it was him or me, but I can tell you I know I would want to be very good with what ever gun I had.

S&W and Taurus lightweights
skeet and Catfish, The Future victim came by and told me he paid for a Taurus on the net and should have it in a little over a week. He found one that had gone from $500 to $550. He really wanted one badly. I will let you know what he thinks of it after he shoots it.

not a big fan of taurus. as for the smiths i have a 642. love it, no outfit is incompatable with the small gun. light as can be. the gun is more accurate than i can make it, people gripe about the locks the smiths have now. no big deal. as for the recoil people mention with the airweights, they are a bunch of sissies, no worse than a 40 cal with +p 38
rounds in it. kt |

Larry,
Great thread! I have fired titanium and other Light Weight revolvers in heavy calibers. I like carrying them and the recoil was stout. As an old PPC shooter, I found it time consuming to get back down on target for round two. Thus, I endeavour to make Round #1 center mass. Adam

The pistol came in Monday and the fellow came by to pick it up. Wanted to try it as soon as possible, but had to work on Tuesday. I suggested he might start with a box of 44 Special and work his way up to the 44 Mags. He said he was used to hot loads in the .357 and felt he could handle it. I will call him in a couple days and see if the feeling has come back to his shooting hand. Will let you all know the outcome!

I have a Tarus Titanium 2 inch ported in 357.
It came with the soft rubber grips which helps with the recoil. For fun and practice I shoot .38's. After shooting about 50 rounds of full loads .357 I notice the palm of my hand starts to get sore. With the porting it pushes back into my palm instead of flipping up much. I love to shoot it with the .38's or the .357's.
