Marlin 39A Question

I just inherited a 39A and was wondering if anyone could date it for me. The Serial number is 27XX. Thanks for any help.

Thanks Swift. Thought it would be older with a 4 digit number. Someone told me the older ones had 2 letters before the number, guess they were right.

your model 39 a
YOu can take the number serial numbers and sub subtract from 100 to get years of manufacture.

old ones have one letter e was 1948 I think and aa- was 1965 ad being early 1968 68-72 are years with the date in the serial number and 27 was I believe the first year of the new date format in 1973.

All other marlin rimfires were not dated intill 1962- 1968 when they did start a 2 letter serial number system . A being the Jan first letter and L for december the second letter is the years with f being 1962 and L being 1968.

Skinner makes a nice peep sight kit for the 39a if you don;t want to scope it.
