Thumbs up Nice

I'll be hunting public land for elk again this 1st rifle season. Backpacking in with my regular hunting buddy and an old friend from the east coast. We haven't put in for our tags yet - I need to research pref pts.
Good luck to you. With your season that long, you could get a lotta chances!

Have put in for draw here in Kentucky( largest elk herd east of big muddy). They are going to draw 1,000 this year,up from 400 last year.

Wow - a thousand elk tags in KY?! Sounds like quite a success story! Good luck on the draw.

Herd was started in 1997 and has grown to approximately 10,000 animals. No predation, excellent habitat, and winters much milder than western states are the reason.
The state wildlife dept. has hit a homerun with this program.

In the Kentucky elk program, are the elk that wander into West Virginia still open season any time, or did that change?

Don't know about West Virginia, but anyone with a deer tag can take elk out-of-zone
during deer season in Ky., if you purchased elk lottery ticket.

Dan, what part of the state is that?

I just put in my application for the late season cow hunt in NW Colorado in December.

Applying on line is the only way to go.

Trapper, this place is just south of home...between Castle Rock and Deckers. I've known the guy for years...knew his family hunted it...didn't want to put him on a spot by asking to hunt. Then...wham, outta the blue he
invited me to hunt on it!
I still cannot believe the length of the season on 'Private Land Permit' hunt.

Now, the waiting game.....be mid June before draw results. PL hunts are pretty much shoo ins....however, I've been known to bomb before! If so, back to public and general bull tag.LOL

Hey Dan, use it or lose it -- what's that? Don't worry, I used to have that but lately I'm scraping enough hours together to make it all happen!

A great friend put us in for a group hunt, this year we drew. It will be DIY, but with his brother living there it's not like we're going in cold. We should do "awright"

P.S. Just transfer me some of your use or lose, I'll take care of it for you, Waidmannsheil, Dom.
