Business's refusing to Speak English

Last night was not a good night...after playing in the swamp we stopped at a Exxon station for Av Gas...now Av gas is not found at most stations so you get it where you can find it..

So after a tiring night we pull in, and proceed to want to fill up.

Nothing nada, no sign saying they were out, nothing walked in and asked them to turn the tank on.."no speak English" was the reply..after some hand gestures, still got "no english"

Well all I can say is my guy took the roof off...I have never seen him get so angry in my life and this place was busy..he unloaded on this place ..

How can a business "do business" in this country and not speak English especially an Exxon franchise...?

Val, next time you get one of those "No speaky" guys, just shrug and say, "Well too bad. I just wanted to tell you your car is on fire."

Watch and see how fast the language gets learned. And when he gets back in the store, smile and say, "Can you turn the pump on now?"

LOL

That is hilarious Rocky. I wonder how many employees say they don't speak English just so they do not have to do any work?

The employment market for employers must be looking pretty good because I went through the McDonalds drive thru on Friday and the person actually spoke perfect English. That was a complete surprise.

Yea I like that one too...ya know Florida is as much of a border state as anywhere else..

Its not just me but you can smell it in the air here...people are mad and their fuses are gone. You put the fear of the economy and people's future's and the tolerance level has literally disappeared...Everyday we read where some such latin group has manipulated or stolen millions of dollars, the hit and runs are thru the roof, crimes are more heinous and more brutal everyday..it truly is a culture war here..I got 6 Mexicans who moved into a 2/1 down the street and caught them on a security camera looking over my fence, they hang out of an open front door and leer at every woman who comes out of their homes, so you do the right thing, and make noise and 3 weeks later they are still there..
I have to be especially careful due to my "little incident" but I doubt I can be still too much longer.

I'm run a small business in Minnesota and am pressured to become bi-lingual. I tell them I already am, English and broken Norwegian.

Val, you'd be welcome here.

Next time a business refuses to speak English pay them in Pesos.

I have a local Micky D that is close to the house and rather convenient. The manager is Hispanic, all the employees are Hispanic ans if a non-Hispanic comes in, rudeness pervails including "No Habla." when you order from some of the people they have working there. I've written Micky D headquarters several times with complaints about the rudeness of the staff and that seems to have stopped but when I went the last time, I got a kid who could not even speak a word of English. I hollered for the manager to complain and he asked me to leave. Guess he didn't want my money and Micky D HQ got another super nastygram. Too many complaints and they'll lose their franchise.

Gotta agree with Rockey

Being in a farming community that needs migrants to get the crops picked I have seen plenty of them that could not speak English that really could but just wanted you to think they couldn't.

Know exactly what your talking about. We just got back from Southern Florida. Lots of Gaters, Snakes, Birds and Bikinis. Lord whats an old man to do.
If we didn't have a GPS and map book we would still be there. I have never in life seen so many people who know nothing. Not even where Miami was or the Everglades. Naples and Marco were OK. Mostly us english speakers and a few Canadians. Funny they knew how to stick out their hand thou.

If you can find english speakers it's a pretty awesome place however my Italian is iffy and my Spanish worse.

The car is on fire...now that is funny...but probably will work....press 1 for English..I mostly just don't push any button...and it goes through in English...( protest to pushing button for English) ...People work harder anymore at getting out of work than if they actually did the job in the first place....what wife and I are fed up with is people NOT doing their jobs..Insurance co's etc..tax people..we have to end up calling numerous times to get their papers in order for them....think maybe need to send them a bill and an hrly rate attatched..oh...not to forget a late fee if they don't pay in 30 days..I just put electric in at my camp site..have filled out 2 times papers for ownership..they still put another guys service on my account..can't get in their heads, we each have our own service...separate accounts...still even a phone call will put them together on same account..and they even speak English on other end..such is life..
