Anyone Got Special Plans for Memoral Day

Did my pilgrimage to Fort Logan early...(don't like crowds or ceremonies)
0500.....spent about an hour in thoughts n memories...guess they were having an early funeral.....was wearing my ole Boonie...couple of young Jarheads in full dress saluted me...under new law, I returned it!...got teary and came home.
Cleaned carpets and did some ribs. kinda mellowed the rest of the day!
Hope every one has a safe weekend!
Dan

The little one commaded a JROTC color guard. They got to be at an lz then salute a General after his Blackhawk landed. Later they presented the colors at a small ceromony for a group of 450 vets on their Run for the Wall as they came thru Montvale this past thursday.

They performed flawlessly....really proud of her. Later, one of her guys thanked her....he didn't really appreciate the importantance of what they were doing till after a few old vets thanked them with tear filled eyes.

This weekend...since I don't do crowds either.....I'm gonna add some waterproofing to a coupla basement walls.

.......................

Turns out that tommorrow, the little one has the honor of posting colors at the D-Day memorial.

The mrs retired Navy, I was an Army medic, both dads were retired Air Force and are now in National Cemetaries. I still have a great uncle who's a retired USMC LG....there's more. You can definately say a family thing. The little one want's to go to VMI. We too remember every day.

Forgive my babble....guess what I'm trying to say is...
Whether or not a person agrees with where they fought or why, these were kids that answered their country's call....they had every day lives, just like you and me.Vibrant and full of fun...yet, they went...most returned...for those that didn't, they left tremendous gaps in the live of those they left behind....moms n dads/wives/kids they never met......and those that served with them!
Guess you have to be a old goat to finally realize this......to all that put on a uniform in the time of need, I salute all of you!

Had an awesome AMMO Call yesterday. Anyone who's been in the AF has probably heard of them. Didn't get too out of control and a great time was had by all. Definitely a fantastic way to kick off the summer season. I grilled truckload of burgers and dogs and we had a whole pig to roast. All food came out great and I ended up getting cooked almost as well done as the burgers. Forgot to bring a hat After that I just kinda chilled in my room. Today we're going off base to sample some local cuisine and walk around and see what Gunsan City has to offer. Tomorrow will probably be pretty chill. Memorial Day seems a little more real here in the ROK. Maybe being so close to where so many fell. Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. Take care
