O/u ?

So with so many low end to middle end O/U shotguns out there, which ones are worth the price, and which ones are junk and shouldn't be bothered with? I see Mossberg, Savage, Remington, and Stoeger all have offerings....anyone out there have any experience with these, good or bad?

I got to shoot a buddies Remmy O/U after he bought it a few years back (so bear in mind this is may not reflect on current remmys) and it was smooth as silk and went up just right.

don't know about the others.

For many years, I have used a Winchester 101 12 gauge and a Model 96 20 gauge. Never had a problem. Last year I was scanning the used gun racks in a local gun shop and found a mint Browning Citori 12 gauge. I have done well with the Browning on pheasants. So it depends what you prefer, seems to fit you and can afford. Take care...

I can't speak for the others you mentioned as I have never fired any of them. However I have a 12 ga Antonio Zoli O/U that I have had now for nearly 40 yrs. If you could find one used it would probably be in the price range of the other guns you mentioned. I will highly endorse the Zoli guns. I also have a SxS in 20 ga. that I have had almost as long and shot almost as much. There's no telling how many thousands of rounds have been through my 12 ga. O/U shooting at doves over the years and it is still tight. The finish has held up extremely well too.

Some folks don't look at the Japanese made O/Us because of WW2. They made guns for Winchester and Browning. I have a Japanese made Charles Daly in 20 gauge that is a very fine gun. Got it from my brother and haven't had a problem with it in oever 20 years.
They may cost a bit more than European made O/Us, but they seem to be a better quality item.

Thanks for all the replies so far....I had forgotten about the Zoli; I remember reading about them in guns digest years ago. Might have to do an internet search later..........

I guess I must be one of the "some folks" you were talking about as I refuse to buy any of their autos for the same reason. However I had two Belgian-made A-5 shotguns and whenever I had the opportunity to compare them to their Jap counterparts I could not see where they were inferior in any way.

dovehunter, I can understand, but you won't have to worry about the Japanese made counterparts to the Auto-5. I don't think I have ever seen one.
I am really talking about the quality of the imports from Europe. Many are very inexpensive but it is because their quality leaves much to be desired. If you open them up, the internal parts on many look like they were puched out with a stamp press. Very little finishing on what you can't see.

I bought a Stoeger Condor in 12 ga. about 11 years ago. Have used it some to shoot trap, but mainly it gets used to hunt ducks and geese. It has worked just fine for me after all these years, and I don't really care if it gets wet, dirty, ect. It was meant to be used hard.
