Red face The 2009 elk "take".

Elk archery is started. My son took a 6 point herd bull late Friday. A "bolt" through the liver from about 30 yards. It went less than 100 yards before going down to stay. A house full of rifles specific for meadow mice to cape buffalo and he had to use a "stick". I'll try to live it down.

If he took it with a "bolt" , I wouldn't consider the delivery device a "stick".

Congrats to yer boy!

Swift, I call the arrows and bolts "sticks". That new cross bow he used is almost as expensive as a new rifle. 175 pound pull and the broadheads are 100 grains. He uses a string device to cock it so the pull is equal. Very, very accurate to about 50 yards. Runs out of gas shortly thereafter. He has a special crossbow scope on it so there is very little guessing. The "bolt" flight is flat enough that there is little range estimation required for an elk. What was an invigorating experience for him was getting right in among the elk in the doghair lodgepole pine.
