Another Gun 'Accident'
A work associate commented Monday about a buddy of his had a 700 Remington "Blow Up" last week elk hunting. Had him bring it in today for me to look at. Kids dad had bought the ammo.....he was firing 7mm Express in a 7mm Mag......bullet exited barrel....actually killed a 4X5 Bull. Case had expanded to fill chamber and totally ruptured in several places..he caught a face full of blow out as it exited around the bolt!Aside from fear, he was OK.
Folks, keep an eye on your hunting partner AND his rig....some folks simply do not know better!By the grace of God................... Dan

When I worked in a gun store, one of the most common demands I heard was, "Gimme a box of seven emm-emm bullets."
I NEVER knew what they meant. Did they want a box of bullets for reloading, or a box of ammo for one of MANY different kinds of seven-millimeter cartridges. And when I tried to determine the answer, they'd invariably get whizzed off and call ME the dummie.

I had the same experience as Rocky.
" I got a 7 Millimeter". "Ok, 7 millimeter what?" "I dunno, just gimme some 7 millimeter ammo!" Happened all the time.

Different sort of gun accident.
Went on a call this morning to extricate a hunter from the woods after being shot in the abdomen. Our text page said "shot with a 50cal". He's still alive and was medevaced to a trauma center. Here's a link: http://www.readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=162662# I do not know who requested the father to "fire his weapon once into the air to help them pinpoint their location".

I never like driving deer just for this reason although the results were always pretty good. Like someone showing up to drive deer with a 12a and buckshot. Da.

Good point to keep tabs on fellow hunters...I once noticed how fast this guy was with his shotgun shots..found out he didn't believe in the safety on issue..never hunted again with him..and guess what, I found out he later had been sitting in a goose blind with a few others when his shotgun accidently fired....nobody hurt..
Something to watch for and I state this with my own experience..I went to gunshop, bought a box of 223..later when I shot a groundhog, I got sprayed in the cheek enough to draw blood..from blow back around the bolt..(glad had high mounted scope due to lens size)...as I found out ...within the box of 223 ammo was one round of 222...it loaded fine, shot with one heck of a different blast though...so I and the gun shop owner figured someone wanted to maybe see the difference in a 222 and 223 round but had put them in different boxes...I do check every round now within the box..not just that the proper box is purchased..

I was at a gun shop many years ago when I overheard a guy wanting a box of 308 Browning. The gunshop owner asked if he wanted a 308 win, but he said it was a 308 Browning. The store owner knew it was a 308 win, but obviously he owned a 308 win in a Browning rifle. He was upset and wanted to find a dealer who supplied 308 "Browning". I guess he is still driving.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this.
Years ago, Remington brought out the .280 Rem. but chambered only the pump and semi-auto rifles for he round.  Power level was kept sufficiently low for those two rifles. People wanted the round in the M700 so Remington changed the name to 7MM Remington Express and made the load a bit hotter. Then people started mixing up the name 7MM Rem. Exp. with 7MM Rem. Mag. and shooting the round in 7MM mag. rifles, and now you know the rest of the story. It didn't take Remington long to change the name back to .280 Remington. I wonder if they then downloaded the powder change back to original levels? Just a very poor choice in renaming the cartridge IMHO. Still, people should pay more attention to what they should be using in their rifles. Paul B.
