Chinese knives?

Most of the pocket knives in the stores are now made in China.

How do they actually compare in quality, sharpness, etc. to those made in the USA 15years ago?

I still have an older Buck and Shrade....

There may be some ok China made knives out there but I'm a knife nut and have never found one made with a good steel. Most of my knives are ATS-34 or S30V steel. I usually do not bother to mess with anything less. Both steels hold great edges and you just do not find that from China.

Lotta junk, but have a couple that aren't too bad. Have 2 Columbia River knives that are made in Tiawan that are very good, excellent design and keep an edge. Much prefer Finish, German, Engish and of course good old American knives.

marles knives used to be made right here in gladstone but now they have there blades made in china.
There brand has suffered frome it they still sell knives but nothing like they did.
I do have a couple of there pockit knives and they are nice i also have a prechina sheath knive.
I no case -frost and sharp are made here.
The employes from marbles make knives and they are works of art and everything is made right here i think there name is rock river knives.

Like anything there is good and bad coming out fo China. I feel it's a shame and very short sighted for these companies to move production to China to make a fast profit. I wonder who they think will be able to uy their products once everyone is out of work that's not in China that is?

Now a friend in the US sent me as a gift a Chinese made Frost "Apache" knife and it seems to hold an edge. He sells knives and claimed these were so poor he would be ashamed to sell them. So offered these "junk" knives as he put them to anyone who wanted one. I said yes but only if I pay the shipping to the UK and didn't hear anyhting then the knife just showed up in the post. I recently had a leather sheaf made for it by a fellow at the Achery club to replace the horrid nylon one that came with it.

Chinese knives CAN be okay, IF the US company keeps a close watch on their QC. But, they will cut corners if they get the chance.
I have a multi-knife set by Winchester - made in China though. Decent half-serated blade, holds an edge. But, one of the screws came out and the blade opened in my pocket! I managed to extract it without cutting myself, and that knife went in the trash.
I have another knife - a fixed-blade "Commando Tanto" with 5" tanto blade that is my favorite field knife. I once opened two steel 7.62X54R ammo tins using this knife as a chisel - it survived and stayed sharp with hardly a scratch! Takes and holds a good edge. Just the right size for general duty - NOT a huge Ramboesque knife. I lucked out with this one!
I acquired many junk knives when I first began 'collecting' them. Now I know much better what to look for.

I don't buy chinese made products....at all.....ever. I fined their quality is extremely poor, sometimes toxic (remember the pet food) and the politics of the place is horrendous. Why do business with the enemy?

Every gun show I go to has tables with hundreds of $3 to $15 Chinese knives. Not a one of them worth having. I agree with you Dutchman1, I've not found a single Chinese made knife that I would bother to put in my pocket. You just cannot skimp on quality steel and still expect them to take and edge and keep an edge. I don't know why but many of the knife companies seem to be quit making knives with S30V and ATS-34 steel and gone back to 440 stainless. I'm not impressed those knives made with the cheaper steel at all and count myself lucky to have picked up my Benchmade, GT, Cabela's Alaska hunting knives and Al Mar Knives while they were still made with quality steel.

I made a new yrs resolution thats possible to keep.USA FIRST and china last.If you need something,it's ok to buy from any country but china is always last.We're on computers,search,and you can find products of your own country,and I can't fault someone from uk or another country for supporting their economy.

These are MTech knives I bought last year. They're well built and take a razor edge quickly by honing with ceramic sticks. I have no quarrel with these knives at all. Only paid $7.00 each!
